Quick Quotes
Q. That's another win in the books in match play for you. I believe you're on a bit of a streak?
JOHN GOUGH: Yeah, match play seems to be treating me well. Just keep playing matches and winning them and then I think we'll have a very nice outcome at the end.
Q. How many in a row now do you think?
JOHN GOUGH: Off the top of my head, it's between ten to 14 but I'm 20 -- out of the last 22 matches, I've won 20, halved one and lost one.
Q. Do you feel like that makes you a bit of a threat when it comes to the match play because you're in such good form?
JOHN GOUGH: I believe it helps. At the same time every single match is a new opponent on a new day. So I think everyone starts equal.
So you can't think like that going into it too much. I think as long as you keep your feet on ground and know that you've only got one opponent on that day, so I like to keep my head nice and square and hopefully results come.
Q. Now talk to us about your match today.
JOHN GOUGH: I was pretty much, I didn't really make any mistakes today. I put my opponent under pressure straightaway, and going up early, I was through six holes, I was 3-up.
And just coming in there, and you know that the opponent has to do stuff and around this course, how difficult it is, it's hard to pull birdies out of nowhere.
I made a few good birdies and putter was hot, if it stays hot for the week, I think I'll be in good hands and give everyone a good match, which is my plan.
Q. Yu won the Lytham Trophy, so you're very familiar with the course. Do you feel like that's an advantage for you this week and especially today?
JOHN GOUGH: I feel, for myself, as a said, it's another opponent every day but I feel for people playing me, they could potentially feel that. I can definitely say I like playing. It's treated me well. Hopefully it keeps going.
Q. I'm sure every time you play Lytham, you learn a little bit more about it and how you should manage the course. Do you feel like you've been drawing that experience this week?
JOHN GOUGH: Absolutely. Every time I've played this golf course, it's been different some way. And so I think it's just getting to grips with how it's going to play on the day and knowing where you can push, where you can't push, and staying patient I think is the main thing out here, even in match play. It's hard to chase, but I think, yeah, it's going well.
