Quick Quotes
Q. Talk to us about your round?
MAX CHARLES: Yeah, I played pretty solid all day. I was 3-up through eight. It was a good start. I think I was eight fairways and eight greens in the first eight holes, so yeah, I didn't really do much wrong. There was a bit of a bump in the road halfway around, but grinded out the last few holes and one or won 2-up down 18.
Q. Do you feel like obviously you needing to play it safe around Lytham is the way to go? Not missing fairways, is that what you're going to try to do tomorrow?
MAX CHARLES: I don't think it's play it safe because it's still a long course. I think if you can stay out of the bunkers, that's the main thing. I don't think you can really play protective golf around here just because long irons into those greens doesn't end up in winning holes.
So you've still got to play semi-aggressive but pick your lines off the tee and stick to it.
Q. Are you feeling comfortable out there?
MAX CHARLES: Yeah, I've been hitting it well the last few days. As long as I can stick to my game and just trust my swing and that's all I can do, really.
Q. You're at college in the States. Where do you go and what's your form been like coming into this week?
MAX CHARLES: Yeah, it's been good. I had a good season. So towards the end of the year, we really just got done with postseason, regionals, so there was a two-week break and I come over here. I had a Top-25 there. So it's been solid. I've just really figured out my putting so that helps a lot around here.
But yeah, overall my game's been pretty good lately.
Q. And is this your first time competing in the amateur?
MAX CHARLES: It is.
Q. And first time playing links golf?
MAX CHARLES: No, this is my first time in England. I've loved every bit of it. But links golf compared to Australia -- I know we call it links back home, but this is just something else. It's really special to be here.
Q. We had quite a big contingent of Australian players over here but you're the last man standing flying the Aussie flag, and we have quite an international field here this week, so is it nice to be representing?
MAX CHARLES: Yeah, it was good to see the boys. I haven't seen any Australian players in a while and it sucks that they are knocked out but I'll go as far as I can take that flag.
