Quick Quotes
Q. Yesterday both Adam and Mac spoke in glowing terms of what you meant to their careers, what you mean to their careers. They're very excited to play with you today. Curious from your perspective, how was it being in an all-Canadian trio at the Canadian Open?
MIKE WEIR: Terrific. We had a great time today. Everybody played pretty well. Mac had a great day. Adam birdied the last, which has got to feel good. We had a good day out there.
Q. You guys had some of the biggest crowds all day. How exciting is that on the first day of a tournament to have massive crowds really following your every move and giving you momentum whenever you get a birdie?
MIKE WEIR: Yeah, I mean, especially at 7:00 in the morning when it's raining. It was nice to see so many people here early. When you get some momentum, you can feed off the crowd. It's been a couple years since we've been playing. I think everybody's excited to see all the guys and see the players. So it was great to see the crowd support, and we're going to have a great day tomorrow. So should be even better tomorrow.
Q. How nice is it to get back to a Canadian course where it really feels like a Canadian course, these grasses? Do you get a chance to play these courses very often? How does it feel to get back to one?
MIKE WEIR: Not many on the Champions Tour like this. It's nice to familiar, like you said, grass. It's a real championship setup here. They've done a really nice job with penalizing rough and tough greens, tough pin positions. They've done a nice job here.
Q. Just picking up on that about the golf course setup, I think this tournament has tried to walk a fine line in the past between being a stiff test for a national Open but also recognizing its place on the calendar. How would you say they've done at kind of walking that middle ground, so to speak?
MIKE WEIR: I think they've done a really good job. You have the U.S. Open next week. This is a great test to kind of get in that mode for next week as well for the guys.
But this is also a National Championship too. You have the top players here, Rory and Justin and Scottie Scheffler, guys that I think they value what the Canadian Open means and they want that trophy on their mantel. I know Rory spoke highly of winning this tournament. He's a great champion.
I think the top players realize that. That's why Nicklaus played every year trying to win the Canadian Open.
