Quick Quotes
Q. Matt, if we could just get a few comments. Obviously a good start. Just a few comments on how you felt.
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, I played really well. Really, really happy with the way I played today, just solid all around. Had a couple opportunities to chip it a little bit closer, but other than that, I'm being really picky. Everything in my game was going well. So, yeah, I'm happy with the start.
Q. Just wonder in general, how nice does it feel when you go out Thursday morning and post a low number? That must kind of set you up for the rest of the week just in terms of the confidence you have in your game?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. It's a big step in the right direction. Early here, obviously, but in my opinion, it doesn't matter whether it's late or early. If anything, kind of prefer to do it late because you don't have a bigger gap to wait the next day. It's kind of nice just to keep that momentum.
For me, I'm going to go back and sort of rest a little bit now. I have a late tee time tomorrow, so it's kind of finding time to kill really in between rounds.
Q. How do you keep yourself occupied during that down time?
MATT FITZPATRICK: A lot of Netflix. Just chatting to my pals at home and stuff like that and just -- yeah, just trying not to do anything really.
Q. Can you just comment on the test that St. George's is offering here this week for a national Open, and also preceding the U.S. Open next week?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, I think it's great. It's tough off the tee, which I think is what probably the TOUR needs a little bit more often is more penal off the tee. The rough's thick if you're out of position, and it's tough to get back in position as well as make birdies from there. It's really important to hit the fairways to give yourself a chance of making more birdies.
Q. Does this kind of place cater to your game, do you think?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Definitely. Growing up, I've always been kind of more of a straighter player and solid putter. To me round here, it's just about giving myself plenty of chances to get shots off the fairway to give myself chances for birdie. Today I did that well.
