Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Jenny Shin coming off her all-squared result with Haeji Kang, but still advancing to the round of 16. Tell me how you feel about that even though today wasn't the result maybe you wanted.
JENNY SHIN: I mean, it was the result I wanted. I want to tie or win, you know. Yeah, I made golf really difficult today, so I'm very happy to have tied to advance to the 16.
That putt on the last hole really gave me some confidence going into the weekend, so pretty happy.
Q. I see Haeji went 1-up at 16. Did that make you nervous, really kick you into high gear knowing a tie will get me through?
JENNY SHIN: No, I wasn't stressing out much. I had a pretty good feeling because No. 18 coming in isn't the easiest hole. Definitely didn't think I was going to chip it in on 17 or be in the bunker in the first place, but I'm very happy with the bunker chip in. Definitely made it a little bit more fun.
But, yeah, I guess it was supposed to pan out this way.
Q. Yeah, you haven't played 18 yet this week, so how did you find it? Did you enjoy playing 18, or would you have rather been done earlier?
JENNY SHIN: I mean, it is what it is. I'm just glad I didn't have to play again in the playoff. That would've been really difficult. It's really hot out today.
Yesterday was windy; today was just gusty. Yeah, I'm just happy that I didn't play more than 18.
Q. You are a native, so this is more -- not native, but you live here in Las Vegas. Is this worse than usual, than what you're used to?
JENNY SHIN: No. I just don't come out at this time. My practice starts at 6:00 and ends way before it gets really hot. So, no, I wouldn't torture myself and put myself out here.
Q. Right. Keeping the heat and everything in mind, how happy are you that you had an early finish yesterday? Did you get all the rest and everything that you needed coming into today?
JENNY SHIN: I don't know, it didn't feel that much different. But like you said, hopefully tomorrow is a better day.
Q. Yeah, and like we were talking about, you knew today going into this match you could come away with a tie, but it won't be like that anymore in this tournament. Going into the weekend now it's must-win every day. What sort of changes in your strategy, if anything, or what's the mindset going into knock-out rounds?
JENNY SHIN: Yeah, I struggled with my shots a little bit today. The wind didn't quite help me. I'm slightly more fade biased, so a lot of holes where the wind was coming right to left and I couldn't hit it left. You know, fade was just going to kill the ball.
But I fought through it, kept the ball low. Maybe with that change I struggled a little bit out there, so hopefully after a little bit of range session today I'll be able to dial it back in for tomorrow.
Q. Yeah, and if it's windy tomorrow, you feel like you learned what you needed to today to be prepared for that?
JENNY SHIN: Yeah, I think today was the first day where it was gusty and turned around and around and around. It was difficult. I had to back off a few times, change my club a few times.
Thankfully some of them worked out; some of them didn't. So, yeah, hopefully tomorrow I'll have a better idea, better strategy.
Q. Did you play in this event last year?
JENNY SHIN: I did.
Q. What round did you make it...
JENNY SHIN: I made it to 16.
Q. And then you...
JENNY SHIN: I lost.
Q. So that's hopefully not going to happen tomorrow. What did you learn specifically in the round of 16 last year that maybe you can try and replicate tomorrow, or not replicate?
JENNY SHIN: Yeah, I think I got a little bit too complacent last year. I was 2-up after 16 and things turned around. I lost 17 and 18 in a row and lost in a playoff, so hopefully tomorrow I'll keep my focus sharp and just never know golf. All the way to the end.
