JOHN DEVER: Good morning, and welcome back to the 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship here at Harbor Shores. We're in Benton Harbor, Michigan. We're joined by Brian Gay, who just posted a second straight 68, 6-under par for the championship. Thanks for joining us. Looking at your card, a couple of birdies and a couple bogeys on the front but then really some solid golf on the back. Maybe tell us about your round today.
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, kind of similar to yesterday. I was under, lost a few and then played good the second nine yesterday, even though there were different sides. Off to a different start, and then unfortunately that little bitty -- not a squall, but the rain and the cold air came in over there on 7, which is obviously a really hard hole already, and made a bogey there.
Started on 6, three-putted 6, and then 7 is a tough hole, missed the green and then didn't get up-and-down, and then kind of got it in gear after the turn there.
Q. How about your birdies, especially the back? Maybe describe a couple of your birdies and how those came about.
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, I'm trying to think. I hit a nice little shot on 11 to about three feet on the par-3 there.
Good drive and a wedge behind the hole probably eight feet on 12.
Q. 15?
BRIAN GAY: 15 I hit a good drive and I had a bad lie. It was easily reachable but I chose to lay up, got up-and-down from about 84 yards, probably made a nine-footer or so.
17 I hit a nice shot in there about six feet, made birdie.
Q. You shot identical scores yesterday and today. Were the golf courses different? There was a little bit more precipitation today than yesterday.
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, it was softer. Not a whole lot of wind but opposite direction pretty much, southeast yesterday and pretty much northwest today. Some different lines off of tees, some different clubs. Yeah, a lot of the drives were plugging, wasn't getting much roll.
Q. You played a lot of events on the big Tour. These aren't a lot shorter courses but a little shorter. Does it let you get in more aggressive mode?
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, although there's -- I felt like the way the weather is today, the ball was really going short. Couldn't really feel like you could swing at it, and kind of was a little bit more conservative. If it warms up and gets nice, probably be a little different story.
For me out here, I'm short on the Tour but I'm long on this Tour. I get in position where I can reach all the par-5s and then just a little different game for me transitioning, it's a lot different.
Q. Do you enjoy the mix of the two?
BRIAN GAY: Yes, it's kind of difficult to go back and forth. It's kind of different mindsets, and the courses play different. But I haven't played since Hilton Head. I skipped -- I was going to go to Wells Fargo and the forecast was so bad I decided not to go, and I went to Atlanta. I'm going to play some more over there this summer, a few more. Just been trying to figure it out.
Q. Do you like your position here 36 holes in? You've got to feel good going into the weekend with how you're playing and where you are.
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, it's a good spot. I think the wind is supposed to blow today, so maybe they won't get too far out ahead. With the wind blowing, it'll definitely be tougher.
Yeah, I think I just need to putt a little better. I three-putted several times, which is unlike me, three-putted the last hole just now, and two three-putts today I think and one yesterday. Missed a couple good opportunities early in the round today even.
I think if I get the putter going a little bit, I'll be in good shape.
Q. You plan to play a few more on this Tour over the summer?
BRIAN GAY: No, I'm going to go play the regular Tour. I'm going on vacation to Greece next week, and then Senior Open and then I'll probably play a few Tour events after that before the Playoffs, and then after that, I don't know.
Q. A little family trip to Greece?
BRIAN GAY: Yeah, my oldest daughter is over there for several weeks with friends. She just graduated at Florida, so we're going to meet them in Greece, flying from here, Chicago, Sunday night, and go over there for a week. Never been. Should be cool.
