Q. Just the emotions on that back nine with all that was going on and being in the thick of it, what was it like for you?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it was good. It's tough obviously to take. Just didn't hit very well. Wasn't a good day, and yeah, just disappointing knowing that you're two shots outside of a playoff and you feel like you've got the game kind of -- well, to make the playoff and go on to win, really.

I shoot level par today and I win it outright. If someone had said that before the round, I'd have fully prepared myself to do that. You know your target and get it around. It wasn't the day that I wanted, and it is what it is unfortunately.

Q. Did you feel right there when you chipped in to get a little momentum there toward --

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, I did. I felt like obviously I got three holes left and one was drivable. I felt like I had a chance. Just never really got any momentum. Felt like it kick started and hit a good drive down the next and good approach shot and the putt wasn't really a nice one to kind of give it a go.

Made it kind of difficult to sort of give myself a chance, and yeah, just messed up on, really.

Q. As a competitor, the guy you're playing with has a terrible finish out there, been in the lead all day. Do you feel for him? What's it like to watch that?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, of course you do. Mito is a lovely kid, and we got talking down the second and he's just a really nice, down-to-earth kid. When that happens, it is tough to take. You hope it's not you, and it's tough to see. He finishes with a par and he's won the U.S. PGA.

You definitely feel for him, and I'm sure he'll have many chances again.
