Quick Quotes
Q. Well played out there today. Hot and bothered, but hot and bothered and happy after that round.
FELICITY JOHNSON: Yeah, definitely. Hot, bothered, tired, but, yeah, it was worth getting up early for. Played nicely, played really steady, so, yeah, happy with the round I've had out there today and yesterday.
Q. What was working so well for you out there do you think?
FELICITY JOHNSON: Drank a lot of water, energy drinks. But, no, hit a lot of fairways, greens. Myself and my caddie did a lot of good work at the start of the week to get sort of the grain and where we're trying to hit the approach shots and figure out the grain as the ball is making its way to the hole on the greens.
We hit lots of sensible shots.
Q. Been a bit of chatter about the grain here. It's pretty hard, especially for European players who aren't so used to it. Obviously you are getting the hang of it. Why do you think this is? You're feeling it a little bit?
FELICITY JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean, we don't play it very often. We were in Thailand a few weeks ago; it was the first I played on grain in a few years, kind of prior to COVID, so that took a bit of getting used to.
I think it depends on the slope. If the grain is going with the putt and it's going to break a bit more and not as much the other way.
So it sounds pretty simple, but it's just taking your time a little bit and just kind of studying it and once you've got your final decision, just try to hit a good putt. If it goes, great. If it doesn't, just hope you've done your best to make it good in.
Q. Do you think the team format is helping you play individually or do you think that's just a coincidence?
FELICITY JOHNSON: Coincidence. I've had some good results on the teams and some not so good ones. I had a good team can Gabs and Rachel, and it was good with Lee out there, Lee Tomlin, footballer, so could chat football, which absolutely very good for me. Takes my mind off it.
I can get chat about new signings and get some inside scope. It was really good fun out there. The fact I played well just made it more enjoyable.
Q. That's your real highlight today, isn't it, the Coutinho signing?
FELICITY JOHNSON: I knew it was going to be a good day when I woke up and we had signed Coutinho. Such a bargain. Yeah, so it's a double whammy. I played well and we got Coutinho.
Q. Talk about your experience and what do you think of the kids if you watch any of them?
FELICITY JOHNSON: Yeah, just watching a few shots here, and they've all got great techniques. Just trying to hit some short shots, and I think for juniors that's the most important thing. If you can have a tidy short game -- I mean, everyone wants to hit driver. I want to hit driver. It's more fun.
If you've got a tidy short game you can turn like an average round of golf into a good one.
Q. Yeah. And what does it make you feel when you see like young kids practicing golf and like they're so passionate?
FELICITY JOHNSON: Yeah, it's cool. So I am an ambassador for the golf foundation back in the U.K., so I enjoy working with juniors. It's rewarding when you see them hit a good shot and the enjoyment they get out of it.
I know when I was a kid if I had a pro come hit a few shots or be involved in my golfing journey, I know I would've enjoyed it, so, yeah, always happy to give something back and watch them enjoy themselves.
