Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Allisen Corpuz. Really solid day. I know probably double par wasn't what you wanted to finish, but how proud are you of that effort?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: It was a really solid round. Even the double was just kind of a bad luck, bad situation.
But knocked in some really good birdie putts and an eagle at 7 and hit the ball really well. Just kind of did everything really well today.
Q. Talk me through the eagle on 7.
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I can't remember my distance but I wanted to hit a hybrid and my caddie was saying, you know, we watched Hye Jin's ball bounce over the green. He was saying I think it's a little firmer up there than we think, so ended up hitting the 5-iron.
Took a really good kick to about 12 feet and then was able to make that for eagle.
Q. What did you find with your putting this week that maybe you didn't have the past couple weeks?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: I think speed control is so important on these greens. Struggled a little bit yesterday, but overall just kind of felt a little steadier over the ball. Been seeing better reads.
Yeah, been able to match up line with speed.
Q. Seems like we're playing a different golf course than the last two days. How much more firm is it out there than it's been the last couple days?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I don't know if it's the wind drying out the greens or what, but, I mean, a lot of approach shots, especially downwind, it's just taking a huge kick on.
I think as long as you're playing smart it's definitely still scorable.
Q. Talk me through the heck of a two-putt on 18. That was a long putt back down the hill.
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, so for the pro-am the pin was in a similar position. We were still in the first tier but kind of like I guess second half of the putt, so I knew how it needed to finish. It was more just kind of trying to get it to that halfway mark and then let it take the speed down.
Q. Going to be in contention heading into Sunday. You're a rookie, but you've been in these situations before. What are you doing to stay calm, cool, and collected, and how much confidence do you have going into that situation?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, just really trying to trust my routine and keep doing the same thing. Really trying to take this year as a learning process and not be too hard on myself.
Just be happy about where I am.
Q. They were saying on the broadcast you played here a lot obviously because of playing at USC. Sometimes that can put a little more pressure on yourself when you played at a course a lot. How have you prevented that this week, to not put your expectation too high because you know the course so well?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think college really helped me to just I guess play a lot smarter, just fairways and greens.
Yeah, just trying to keep it in the fairway, hit the green, and ultimately just control what I can control. So just be out there taking good swings, hitting good putts, and not too much pressure.
I think there is just some situations that feel really familiar which has definitely helped.
Q. Today they said you birdied 11 and 13, two of the toughest holes on the golf course. Tell me about those two holes, what you hit.
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, hit a really good shot off 11 tee. Hit another hybrid to about two feet. Just ended up being a good number and took a good swing. So that one was quick.
13 actually was trying to go a little more right of the flag and ended up taking it at the flag.
Then made I think about a 12-footer for birdie. Yeah.
Q. And 17, was it a miss-club or how did you end up in the bunker?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: It was just a bit of an awkward yardage for me. Needed to be a really good swing and it just wasn't. The bunker lie was a little difficult. Just a bit downhill. Yeah, the green was a lot firmer than I thought.
Just hit it over from the bunker and then didn't convert that up and down.
Q. How excited are you about the prospect of tomorrow and being in contention?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I'm really excited. It's just so awesome to hear all the cheers. I have some family and friends out here supporting me so it's been really fun.
Q. I just have one more. This wind out here this week, you're from Hawaii. Driving around the golf course it kind of looks a little bit like Hawaii out there. How familiar are you with playing in this kind of wind?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I mean the Northrop Grumman didn't usually get it windy. On this particular course, not too familiar.
But I think any course that gets windy kind of plays to my advantage because I just feel really comfortable out there.
