XIYU LIN:
Q. Here with Xiyu Lin who had an ace today on the seventh hole, 94 yards, 54-degree wedge. Just take us through that shot.
XIYU LIN: Yeah, I mean, I had a hole in one last year at Carlsbad. It was similar yardages. And I actually, the playing partner, Ash's caddie, she caddie for Jeongeun Lee6 at Carlsbad this year. We played together first two round and she made a hole in one on the third round, so I actually was thinking about that when I'm over the shot.
I'm like, I have a pretty good chance. And then, well, and then what was shocking to me is the ball hit the flag, and my ball never goes well after to hit the flag.
So at that time I was just thinking, Okay, where now? Where did it go this time now? And I completely like didn't realize it went in, and I still didn't believe it. Like took me so long. Until I picked the ball out of the hole I was like, really? It finally go well this time.
Q. What was your reaction like? You said you were kind of surprised to dunk it that hard.
XIYU LIN: Yeah, because it was a really like loud sound, and then first reaction, every one of us was like -- I guess everyone was looking all other directions seeing if the ball bounce into the water or into the bunker or anywhere because it's so loud.
Then the spectator there, especially the spectator at the house behind the green starts to clap and yelling, and then I'm like, really? It goes in? Then Ash kind of said, yeah, it did go in. There is nowhere to see the ball. I'm like, really?
I really just couldn't believe it because I hit the pin so many times and it never ends good.
Q. That's such a positive note to end your week in LA. How good does it feel to leave this event on a high note?
XIYU LIN: Yeah, I mean, I been playing some -- I been struggle a little bit like on the green, around the green this week, but I make the cut. That's the positive.
Entering today all I tell myself is, Jenny, you need to post an under-par round. You haven't done it this week.
Then always great to done it and actually put my total score under par, too. So like on 18 it was really good up and down on the left side.
I think, yeah, I always found it's very different, the conditions over in California than where I practice in Orlando. This week I'm slowly getting used to it. I think it's very positive for me next week to expect a good score.
Q. And then finally, with your ace, CME Group donates $20,000 to St. Jude to help kids with cancer. How good does that make you feel?
XIYU LIN: Well, I think I should make more hole in one then. Last year I made one. I mean, I always appreciate the CME Group, their help, whether sponsoring the last tournament of the year or doing all the charities.
Until right now I still keeping the CME head covers from Tour Championship last year on my driver. So that's the only like head cover. I probably wouldn't switch.
I mean, there is something like -- so these kind of thing, I probably wouldn't see it, but that's a really good motivation for me.
And that's just like us playing golf. We want to inspire kids, and CME is going things to help out the kids, too. Yeah, that's great.
