DIO IMPLANT LA OPEN

April 22, 2022

Hannah Green

Los Angeles, California, USA

Wilshire Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. We were just saying that it is quite impressive any day to go bogey-free, but to do it here at Wilshire, how were you feeling stepping off the golf course today?

HANNAH GREEN: I'm very pleased. I guess today's round kind of felt like even more under par than what it was. I was pretty solid with my putting all day today which was nice because yesterday I had a couple three-putts. But it was nice to get done in the morning and not have to worry about coming back early tomorrow to finish a round.

Q. Definitely some differences just being the afternoon or morning tee times, but for you what were some of the differences in your game today?

HANNAH GREEN: I feel like I actually didn't hit it as good, but when I hit a good shot it was closer. But I feel like I've been hitting a lot of greens, which is nice, giving myself at least opportunities to make birdie, and I feel like I'm finally getting the pace of the greens, as well. Yesterday I hit some far too hard which I think a lot of girls are probably also experiencing, but just acclimatizing to Wilshire Country Club.

Q. You got a birdie there on No. 2. I was just speaking with Ryann, there's only three par-5s here, so what did it mean to get one on No. 2 today?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I couldn't get there in two but decided to lay up, and I wasn't very happy with my wedge shot, so I holed a nice length putt, maybe a 15-footer, so that was nice to have an early birdie. And then I haven't really played the par-5s so well this year compared to last year, so making birdies, especially here, is very important, so trying to get them on par-5s is good.

Q. I know you said last year that you were working on that distance and getting that distance. This course is not for those with the distance; you can't really rely on that. How much have you relied on your short game and approach play at a course like this this week?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I think that's been the difference this week is having slightly shorter clubs in, but you don't have to hit driver everywhere here. I don't think it makes much of an advantage for those longer hitters, I think just those that are accurate and have a good putting game.

Hopefully I can keep the momentum the next two rounds. It's hard to hole putts here because sometimes in the afternoon it gets a little gusty, gets a little bumpy, so you've just got to be really patient.

Q. I know you had that string of pars until you got to your back nine. How satisfied were you to at least not just drop a shot there and just keep those pars going?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I made an amazing par on the 6th hole. I completely duffed my chip shot and had like nearly a 60-footer, and I holed that for par, and Caroline just said she looked at my face and I was literally gobsmacked. My jaw was on the ground. I couldn't believe that it hit the pin and actually stayed in. I thought it was going to ricochet.

So that really helped the hole feel a lot bigger, and then I did have a few pars coming in, but I knew that back nine there was going to be a few wedges, I just had to stay patient.

Q. When you walk away from today, what do you take away to head into tomorrow?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing. I think Nate and I are doing a good job with decision making out here. Sometimes you need to be aggressive and sometimes you need to kind of lay back, so just picking those moments, especially if the conditions are going to stay this way.

Q. What have you been working on heading into a week like LA?

HANNAH GREEN: I think my putting has kind of been the thing I've been working on. I feel like I hit the ball good in Hawai'i, I just didn't necessarily putt very well, so it kind of made everything feel a little bit tougher.

So I actually took Monday off this week. I was pretty tired from just playing in the wind and traveling, also, from Hawai'i. Just came out and did some putting and some short game, just trying to get as much confidence as possible.

Q. We're getting into that summer stretch. How important was that rest day for you, and what goes into that decision to be like, I need to take that day for myself?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I thought about coming to practice in the morning, but as soon as I work out, I was like, I can't. I went to the gym, so I did something productive. But when I got to the golf on Tuesday morning, I just felt so much more refreshed, so I'm really glad that I made that decision even if I didn't have the scores to show that. I feel like I really needed just a mental break, especially after Hawai'i trying to stay patient in that wind, so I'm glad with that decision.

Q. As the winds pick up here, what's the strategy of dealing with that as well as the poa annua greens? There's so many things you have to think about as you head into these third and fourth rounds.

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, it's hard. It's hard to stay patient, and I think that's what tricks us most of the time when we're trying to win golf tournaments. Wilshire is a tough stretch. 17 and 18 aren't really very easy holes, so I'm glad to have made two pars on there today. Yeah, just trying to capitalize on the shorter holes where I have wedges, try and knock something in close so I don't have to be too stressed with trying to make a putt.
