Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Dewi Weber. At the moment, 68. Take me through how you're feeling today.
DEWI WEBER: Were felt good. I didn't started off super hot. I actually was like 1-over until probably the seventh hole.
I kept pretty patient like you kind of have to be on this course and just kept doing shot for shot.
That paid off pretty well.
Q. You started kind of a string of birdies there between 7 and 15. What clicked on No. 7 do you think?
DEWI WEBER: I think I finally hit a good shot that like paid off both in course management and just like hitting a solid shot for once.
I hit it to like three feet and that's like kind of what started it. Then I just kept doing what I was doing, like swing-wise, but also course management-wise from that moment on.
Yeah, like you said, it just clicked.
Q. You talk about staying patient on a course like this. What is it about Wilshire that is a challenge to you or how does it suit your game?
DEWI WEBER: So I'm a pretty aggressive player. Anything at Wilshire -- I mean, the players know you kind of got to stay below the hole, and I'm a person who wants to attack every flag, which I know is not like the greatest mindset on this course.
For me personally it's like very much about picking your spots, like sometimes not going for pins, sometimes looking like, oh, if I miss-hit it just a little bit, where do I want to miss it almost.
Q. Uh-huh.
DEWI WEBER: Add that up to the poana that's on the greens, I think any time it's poana you have to be patient. You can hit a good putt and it might not go in.
I think the fact we were playing at 7:00 a.m. helped with that. Still you're going to hit good putts and they're not going to go in and it's just part of it.
Q. What's it like gearing up for this week? You're an LA player out here, one the many on this west coast. What it like gearing up for Wilshire?
DEWI WEBER: I love it. I mean, I get to stay at home, which anyone who knows me knows that I'm kind of a homebody. For me being able to stay at home and spending a little bit more time during a tournament week with my dog and my girlfriend and being chilling, that's everything to me. Like that's such a luxury that I have these two weeks.
For me, obviously I'm attacking this like any other week, it's just a tournament week. But it's a little bit of an extra benefit that I get to be at home.
Q. How much does that help when it comes to your confidence and comfortability to be able to go back to like you said -- how far are you from here?
DEWI WEBER: I live in Santa Monica. This morning it took me 15 minutes; this afternoon probably going to take me 30 because LA.
I mean, it's a different mindset. I think when I come home to a hotel versus like coming home to my home-home and like knowing everything around me, like chatting with the neighbors or like walking my dog, playing, whatever it is, it's just different.
So I get to be a lot more relaxed I think than I would be anywhere else.
Q. Heading into tomorrow you'll you have an afternoon tee time and we'll see some of that poana bumpiness as I want to say as we get to the later afternoon times. Take me through the mindset after having a strong day like today, taking that into tomorrow?
DEWI WEBER: I think it's just going to be the same. Staying patient shot for shot. I know that sounds super corny, but for me it's golf and also the really hard part about golf. Okay, I have to take every shot like one shot at a time.
So that's what we're going to do tomorrow and see where we're ending up at the end of the day.
