Harbour Town Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you kind of describe your round today?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it had some good, it had some not so good, but I'm in a really good spot for tomorrow. Especially with that closing birdie on 18, get a little momentum, and I'm obviously right there.

Q. Let's talk about that birdie. What did you hit into the hole? And how much of a big thing mentally is that for you after kind of an up-and-down round?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think so. I think always finishing under par for the day is a little bit of a momentum builder. Glad not to stall out or go backwards.

Like you said, I'm only one back going into tomorrow on a golf course I really like. So I'm going to draw on a lot of good experience I had around this place.

Q. What was the club you hit in there, and what was the yardage?

PATRICK CANTLAY: It was a pitching wedge from 160.

Q. Maybe what was the difference -- yesterday was so difficult and so demanding with the wind. What was maybe the difference in your game from yesterday to today?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think, if you get out of position on this golf course, it's hard to get back in position. I did that a few times. I made a few more bogeys than I usually would and didn't get the ball up and down early in my round, which usually I do.

So I'm going to throw this round out as a little bit of an aberration and take all the good vibes that I've had around this place into tomorrow.

Q. We talk a lot in these quick quote spots. You're very even keeled. When you're playing well or not playing well, what's going on inside you?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think I'm always striving to be better and play better. So it doesn't matter if you're winning golf tournaments or you're struggling, I think you're still always in that mentality of trying to improve.

So that's no different. I try and really stick to my process and draw on my good team around me and take their advice.

I feel like, as long as you're sticking to your process and you believe in your process, things are going to go in your favor.

Q. Over the last year and a half or even going a little further back, you really came onto the world stage, obviously Player of the Year, FedExCup champion, contending in majors. How do you take what you've done over that time into tomorrow, some of the good memories, and be able to possibly win another golf tournament?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think any time you win a golf tournament, you can draw on that experience and that confidence that it gives you. So I think, given all my experience in playing in tournaments and winning tournaments, you have to be really patient. You have to play within yourself and take a long, long view approach, not get too caught up in the little moments and realize that you're just always going forward and you're just going to stick to your process and let everything else take care of itself.
