Quick Quotes
Q. Good morning. How'd you feel? First round back, how was it?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: I felt great. The first tee shot wasn't as nerve-racking as I thought it would be. I had a great group. It was easy keeping it light out there. We played fast, which was nice.
The game didn't feel anywhere near as bad as I thought it was, so it was pretty exciting.
Q. What were your expectations? Did you expect the game to feel -- like you said, it didn't feel as bad. What did you kind of expect?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: I didn't know. I was trying to be humble with myself really. I didn't have really any goals of a score, I guess, per se, but I was just trying to hit it solid. I mean, 80 percent of them were decent enough. So I hit some balls on the range after, and I think I should have a good round tomorrow.
Q. Did J.T. have a wise remark about your Jordans? I thought I heard him messing with you.
MORGAN HOFFMANN: Yeah, he's like it's going to take me a while to get used to seeing you in those because it's been a FootJoy for so long, and they've been awesome, but things are changing a little bit.
Q. What parts of your game -- like assessing yourself after this round, what parts feel really good, TOUR ready, and what parts do you think this is something that needs to improve before I'm ready to go crazy out here?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: My putting felt great. I'm really confident. Hit all my lines today pretty much. Just a couple of misreads and mis-speed, that were a little slower than what I practiced, I guess.
I'm driving it really short. So I'd love to have a little bit more speed.
Q. Is that just a matter of strengthening up and continuing to build muscle?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: Yeah, I think it's repetition. I was playing with Camilo yesterday, and he took a lot of time off and came back. He was like, it took me three to seven months or so to really get the ball speed back to where I wanted it to. He was kind of scared in the beginning of how slow it was. He was like, man, I'm going to have to quit the game because I'm hitting it short.
He just reiterated that over time it's going to come back and don't worry.
Q. What did it feel like to play a competitive round of golf again on the PGA TOUR?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: It felt awesome. It was pretty surreal, a lot different than the lifestyle I've been living the last 2 1/2 years, and having people cheer your name out there, it's very special.
Having the support and the media and getting that kind of focus on what we're trying to build, the natural health and wellness center in Costa Rica, it's going to be great. I'm really excited about the outcome and the building process.
Q. You kind of seem to have a big smile on your face. You seem like this is a good day. Is that a fair assessment?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: Yeah, I mean, I love this game so much. It's so difficult. I had a great time out there. I think the game's closer than I thought, and it's exciting. I'm pumped.
Q. Are you surprised at how quickly you sort of fell right back into it? Did you think it was going to feel like a lifetime ago? Were you surprised like, oh, I'm right back where I was?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: Yeah, it was weird. It felt like two minutes ago I was out here, but it also felt -- looking back on it, I've been through a lot. Times moved slow when I wasn't out here. Now getting back into it, it's just like the same.
Everyone looks the same, maybe a little bit different. Everyone has a kid or two now. No, I have a smile because I love this game and I just want to play.
Q. Do you have a long term plan at the moment. I know you have your three starts left. If you make the PGA TOUR, then your plan is set. If you don't, what would be next?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: I'm not sure. I'm going to go kind of by the seat of my pants on this one, hoping that I play well. If I don't get my card back in the three starts, hopefully get some sponsor's exemptions for the rest of the year. If I don't get sponsor's exemptions, probably try to Monday in a few.
Yeah, we'll see. I just want to play as much as I can this year and live it up.
Q. Do you plan to go back and forth to Costa Rica?
MORGAN HOFFMANN: Right now we're renovating our house down there, so we're up here for 2 1/2 months or so. So we'll just be living back in Jupiter.
