Quick Quotes
Q. Cam Davis, round 3. Run us through those conditions out there from the first tee shot of the day.
CAMERON DAVIS: It was tough. There's not many other words for it other than just really tough. You've just got to play such good golf around this place just to keep the ball on the greens let alone in the right spots. Game was a little bit off today, and the wind kind of made it worse and worse for me really. I just couldn't get anything going.
Every time I did make a good swing, I felt like I misread the wind and it did something crazy up in the air. While you're back in the fairway just thinking what am I supposed to do?
It was tough. Everyone obviously has to deal with it today, and some guys are still getting it around. It's just leaving it in the right spots and making a lot of nice five, six-footers for par.
Q. Which are tough to make all the time in this wind. When you're a kid growing up and you're sitting at home watching some of these shots, now you're doing it, does that come into your mind? It's like I've seen this shot before.
CAMERON DAVIS: Yes and no. I wasn't able to think about what I'd seen happen out here. I was just looking at every situation for what it was and going, geez, this is a tough shot right now. It wasn't childhood memories of I've seen this great shot from here. It was lot of we've been struggling and we're in trouble now and it's going to be a battle from here.
I don't know. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the swing back on track and hit some more shots and get ourselves some birdies.
Q. When you're in the grind like you were today and when I was watching you play, like you're really digging deep, what's that like? Like does it hurt sometimes?
CAMERON DAVIS: I mean, it's like every single hole. You have a bad hole, and on the next, all right, let's get this thing going. Let's get a couple of good shots in a row. Nothing good happens on that hole. Then you get to the next hole. All right. And you just keep trying to pick yourself back up.
The guys that are really good at that can keep it going and eventually turn it around. I felt like for me it slowly got harder and harder to do.
I played some decent golf around the back nine to be honest. I had a couple of birdies that I left out there on the par-5s, but for the most part, I did start to play some solid golf, but at that point, I was already so far out the back door, that it was tough to stay positive.
One more round around Augusta and the Masters, it's not too bad.
Q. Don't be too hard on yourself. This is your first Augusta. A lot of experience from today to go into next week. So well done.
CAMERON DAVIS: Thank you.
Q. What do you reckon a 10 handicap would shoot today off those tees?
CAMERON DAVIS: I don't know. You could play really well and shoot below 100 if you make a couple of putts, I reckon.
Q. Likely to break 100?
CAMERON DAVIS: It depends if they're a low ball hitter or a high ball hitter. There's a 20-shot difference between the two.
This course is hard. It seems like you want to hit the ball high into every green and you had to hit the ball low. When the greens are firm and it's windy, it's kind of hard to do the low option, so you have to throw the ball up in the air and see what happens a lot of the time. It's just hard.
Q. What do you need tonight to recoup and prepare for tomorrow?
CAMERON DAVIS: My family's here. I might spend some time with them. They'll definitely remind me that what I'm doing right now is pretty cool. I'm playing in a tournament that I've always wanted to, and I'm playing again on Sunday. So I'm sure the perspective will turn right back around, and I'll come back out here looking forward to the challenge and hopefully play a good round of golf tomorrow.
