MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2022

Seamus Power

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Not bad with the wind.

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, it was tricky. It was very tricky. My speed on the greens was a little bit off, and I just missed a couple of chances in because of it.

Let me see, where on the front? I left one in the jaws on 7, just missed, kind of ran out of speed on 8. You don't get too many chances out there with the breeze. I left it in the jaws on 15 as well.

So it was a little frustrating, but I did a lot of good things. So that was kind of encouraging. I need to take advantage of some of the opportunities I kind of gave myself. So hopefully I can do that tomorrow.

Q. It's the ultimate test. Did you find that?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, you definitely -- you get to test everything because it's tricky. You don't miss -- on 17 Simon and I we were talking, I probably missed my landing spot by two or three spaces, and then you have like probably 35 feet coming back instead of on certain courses you might have 10 feet for birdie.

So it's one of those you do have to hit your spots, and it's tricky obviously when the breeze is kind of blowing a little bit more like this. Yeah, it's very fun because you do have chances. You have tough holes. So it's a good mix. I just wasn't able to quite take advantage on the greens.

Q. 14, you were very unlucky. It almost went.

SEAMUS POWER: I thought when I hit it, it was going to be very good. It's small margins, and that didn't quite creep up, and then it came back. Then you've got a tough pitch up and over, up and over a pretty steep hill. So dropped a shot there.

Yeah, it was one of those days it was a little bit off, but some good things, learned a few things, and off again tomorrow.

Q. How tough was it to remain patient?

SEAMUS POWER: It was tough. I was standing on 15 fairway, and I was right on the limit because I hadn't made any birdies. I really wanted 3-wood even though it probably wasn't a shot. It was one of those moments where Simon had to talk me out of it, and I laid up. I didn't make a birdie, but I at least gave myself a good chance.

It's tough, but you have to just wait for opportunities, and if you can get a good look from below the hole, you feel like you need to make it. I had a couple, and I wasn't quite able to take advantage.

So patience is going to be massive. Same thing tomorrow. Good or bad start, you have to stay patient. You will get chances. It's just a matter of taking them.

Q. Scoreboard reflects how tough it is out there.

SEAMUS POWER: It's tough because it's playing longer than it did, certainly more than Sunday, Monday, when I played practice rounds. With the added gust going into the breeze, the greens still are pretty firm, not as firm as they were, but you still need to hit pretty accurately into certain spots. So you're coming in with longer stuff than I was on Sunday and Monday.

So it's just a little more difficult. The the par-5s, it wasn't the ideal wind. Like 2 was a nice wind, but the others, 8 is in off the left, 13 is to the left, and 15 is in. So you take away some of your natural birdie chances.

Yeah, it's tough going out there, and I think it's going to be breezy again tomorrow. So it's probably going to be more of the same.

Q. Probably like it to remain receptive as it is, but it looks like it's going to dry out.

SEAMUS POWER: It's drying pretty quick. I mean, you should see it this evening, it's sunny and it's breezy and it's not crazy humid. So it will dry, and it will continue to dry tonight and into tomorrow.
