MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 6, 2022

Collin Morikawa

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How did it look out there today?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: It's good. Last two shots are exactly what I wanted kind of moving into tomorrow. Things feel good, and you just kind of have to adapt based on what the weather's going to be and conditions.

Q. What did you see on the last two shots?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Just little things, little things that just getting a little more focused for the actual tournament. Sometimes when you start on a Monday and you kind of bleed in and you get a little too comfortable, you've got to remember you can't get lazy out here.

Q. Something specific with you with the pairing and the meet-up there with Sandy on the 4 green. Your putting, he chips over, it was all right, and he meets you on 5 tee. I saw you guys kind of talking a lot and laughing. What was the conversation like?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Just about everything. He told me about how he won the Open at Royal St. Georges. There's this Open Championship belt that I had no clue was a thing that apparently they give out to a couple champions here and there, and he said it would be a special one to win next year or this year.

It's just small talk. I've never met him. He's an awesome guy. I asked him how many Masters he's played in, and it's quite a few.

Q. What was his best advice? Were you kind of picking his brain a little bit?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: No. For me it's just kind of go out and have a good time. That's why I was kind of out there by myself. I just wanted to get focused and just get ready for tomorrow.

Q. He said something, I think, on 6 green or something like that, that the both of you guys were laughing. What did he say, if you can remember? There may be a couple moments, but if there was something that kind of -- both of you started laughing.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: We had a lot of talk about just how different the course has changed, about when he first started playing to what we have now and the past five or ten years. There's little changes that you can't realize and don't notice, but he's someone that's been here and knows every part of this golf course.

So it's cool to see how he kind of plays it around even though it's a different game than I probably play or what a lot of guys play right now.

Q. When you ran into the rules guys and you're walking up to 18, J.J. was telling a story on the tee about some kind of rules thing. What was that? Sandy was kind of interested in that.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: It was just about -- I think he said it was about Chris Kirk at Conway Farms a long time ago, placed a ball, rolled into his own pitch mark. It was a good story.

Q. What did you like about your round today and the way you're hitting and putting this week?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: I was telling Nick here that on 9 it was everything I could have asked for to kind of finish off a practice round. It clicked on the last hole, which is good. Everything felt good, but it was just that one little extra thought that got me to kind of focus up a little bit more and get ready for tomorrow.

That's the biggest thing is it's tournament time and it's go time, so you've got to be ready to hit some good shots.
