Augusta, Georgia, USA
Quick Quotes
Q. Cam, have the first couple practice rounds felt? How is the game feeling? How did you feel about Augusta this year?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, good. Yeah, game feels good. The course is probably the best I've seen it. Yeah, it's unreal.
Hopefully we don't get too much rain this afternoon. I think that, you know, may ruin the condition of it and the playability of it I think a little bit.
But, yeah, fingers crossed we get a firm and fast one over the weekend.
Q. Did you celebrate The PLAYERS hard enough to reset, do you reckon? Did you give to a good celebration, psych up your victory so you're able to reset and come here fresh and hungry?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think so. It was nice to have a few weeks off after that. Probably took me a good five or six days to recover from that week fully, I think.
Spent a lot of time on the lounge and just doing nothing, you know. Yeah, so it was good. Got a good bit of practice the last couple weeks, back in the gym, body feels good. Yeah, can't wait.
Q. You're a pretty laid back guy. Do you feel the pressure with all of Australia wanting you to win?
CAMERON SMITH: No, not really. I've always kind of just gone about my business, just left all that stuff as added noise I don't need to think about.
I'm out there to play my best golf and I want to do it for Australia, but at the same time, one shot at a time, just trying to hit good shots.
Q. You know how hard it is to go PLAYERS into Masters; only Tiger has done it.
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I mean, it's a pretty good name to have yours up against, isn't it, really. So I'm really looking forward to it. Course is magnificent. It's as good as I've seen it. I really can't wait for Thursday.
Yeah.
Q. Do you think about that kind of history or that kind of pressure though? Do you think about that at all?
CAMERON SMITH: No, not particularly, mate. I've never been a real big golf nerd, to be honest. I love golf and I love being creative and stuff like that, but I've never really been one to get into the history of it.
For sure I know all the guys. But, yeah, I'm not up-to-date on all the stats and records and stuff.
Q. But you know having your name alongside Tiger and doing that so the of thing would be awesome.
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it would be unreal. Yeah, he's the one you want your name to be up against for sure.
Q. Cam, the preparation this week, how has it been?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it's been good. Came up yesterday morning. Drove up from Jacksonville, about a four hour drive, did some practice in the afternoon and I went and saw the front nine, so it was pretty long day yesterday.
But feels good.
Q. And you've had success here before. This is your sixth appearance. Why does the golf course suit you?
CAMERON SMITH: I think it just allows me to be creative. Reminds me a lot of home, the sand belt courses, kind of firm and fast.
You know, you have to be smart around here, too.
Q. With the short game around here you need to use your imagination. Fieldy helped you out from day one when you started playing the game of golf. Would you imagine coming to a place like this? Not the normal kid growing up with the short game.
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think I just -- as a kid I just loved to get around the greens for some reason. I loved to see the ball spin, stuff like that.
You just feel like a big kid around here. Some of the shots you hit it pretty crazy and, yeah, there is nowhere else quite like it.
Q. And more importantly, your Broncos, any advise to your Broncos? What's going on there?
CAMERON SMITH: Big date. No, I don't know, mate. I don't know the story. I'm sure they're disappointed as well, but they started off with two pretty solid games I think, so hopefully they can get back into that and get on the trot.
Q. What would it mean to have Tiger in the field?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it would be unreal. I think it would be obviously great for the tournament. I think it would be great for golf.
I think all the guys out here as well just want to see him back out competing again.
Q. I guess you always want to beat the best, don't you?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, that's right. We're all competitors. We all want to -- I'm sure he's itching to get back out here and be competitive again.
Q. Any tips on the hair routine? How much time spent on it?
CAMERON SMITH: Not that long. Dry with the towel and that's it. It's done.
Q. Looks like there is a bit of work going on.
CAMERON SMITH: I go to the barber probably once a month and he sorts it out, and then it gets ruined and he goes and fixes it up again.
