Quick Quotes
Q. Was today your first -- you have not been on this course already?
CAMERON YOUNG: Not this week. I've played it once before.
Q. But in terms of a practice round?
CAMERON YOUNG: No, I did some practice yesterday, and I played today.
Q. What's the vibe like for you as a competitor here? You've been here on the grounds before. You've had a good start to the year. I think you've got a good chance this week. What's it like something?
CAMERON YOUNG: No, I think it's -- I mean, it's something you have to dream of and look forward to when you're young, playing this game at a high level. This is kind of the pinnacle of what we do is the Masters tournament. And Augusta National is somewhere that every golf fan or golfer in general dreams of being, never mind playing and never mind playing in the Masters.
I think I'm more comfortable than I thought I would be. I thought I'd be nervous hitting the first tee shot out there on the practice round today, but I feel pretty comfortable out here. I love the golf course. I think we'll have a really nice week.
Q. Do you think that's a product of the starts you've had? You've been doing this for a while now, but the start to the season, you've kind of been in the cauldron a little bit. Do you think that's helped maybe ease some of what might have been some butterflies today?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, definitely. Being in the hunt at somewhere like Riviera, I feel like I found a way to be pretty comfortable around there. Obviously, Augusta might be a little different, but I think that's about as good a preparation as you can ask for.
Q. Are your folks out yet?
CAMERON YOUNG: They are, yes, sir.
Q. Did they walk the practice round with you?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yes, they were all here today.
Q. How is that rewarding to you for everything your dad's done with you to be out here with him?
CAMERON YOUNG: It's been fun on the PGA TOUR in general, but for him to be here is awesome, my mom and my dad. They've obviously both been involved in golf for a long time, and Augusta National being what it is and the Masters being what it is, it's special for them to just be here. Never mind with me getting to play.
My dad and I got to hang out on the practice area yesterday, and we sat out there and chipped and putted. He watched me hit some balls for a couple hours. It's just an unbelievable place to spend any time at all. I mean, just to even just walk out on that practice area is so special.
Q. I'm not trying to go too crazy on this, but a lot of guys say they never dreamt large enough to be playing in a Masters. You want to be a pro, whatever. Is that -- I don't know, how realistic was that when you were younger and thinking about this moment?
CAMERON YOUNG: I feel like a lot of people, if you ask them, that are actually out here, I'm sure a lot of them got that far in their dreams. I'm sure the guys out here, a lot of them, I'm sure, dreamt of making a putt on 18, not only to win but to win by a lot.
Yeah, I think it's obviously -- it's always a dream until you end up actually sitting here. Yeah, I think it was something that I always wanted and then became a very real possibility kind of this fall and became more of a goal than a dream starting earlier this year.
Q. How does the place suit your game?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think very well. I typically drive it quite well. I think that's rewarded out here. The driving, you can just make it simpler from hitting good tee shots. I know it's very complicated around the greens and very tricky and I have a lot to learn, but I think if I can kind of keep my wits about me and make smart decisions around the greens, I'll do all right.
