Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Lexi Thompson. We talked about it a little bit, but storybook ending on 18. Four birdies on the card; bogey-free. What did you find in your game this final round that let it in like that?
LEXI THOMPSON: You know, I think just this whole week about staying patient. That's what major championships are usually all about. They're long weeks and there will be bogeys made, but a matter of staying positive, staying patient, knowing you can take advantage of a few birdie holes out there.
Got a little bit windier today, so I just had to stick to my game plan, focus on one shot at a time, and I just went into the last putt and I'm like, let's just end on a good note in front of all these amazing fans and just hear them cheer.
I'm happy I got to do that in front of them.
Q. Definitely honored Dinah in a great way, but what kind of mentality does this give you heading into the rest of the season? This has to be a pretty good barometer for where your game is at right now?
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, it is. I felt great about my game after the first two events and then had the six weeks off.
I've just overall been working extremely hard on the mental side of things, my physical aspect of the game, and just the mental side is more important.
But I've been putting in the hours on the putting green and just really working extremely hard on and off the golf course.
So seeing it paying off, I think that's what all athletes want, is just to see the hard work pay off and moving in the right direction.
So I'll probably have a few weeks off now and see where that goes.
Q. Talking with your caddie, seems like that relationship has been going pretty well. Almost coming up on a year together.
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah.
Q. What kind of streaks are you working on with him?
LEXI THOMPSON: You know, it's funny that you say that, because we talked about that today. I'm like, what event is this for us? I think we came to a conclusion this was our tenth week together, or tenth event for that matter.
Just work really well together. We get along very well. We have great conversations in between shots and he just keeps me loose and positive. He is super upbeat and positive, which I need.
In between shots we're always laughing, and he's there to pick me up when I'm down and we ride the highs together.
Q. Any final words for Mission Hills?
LEXI THOMPSON: Mission Hills, this is still one of my most favorite venues. Such amazing memories here.
But I know Chevron is going to do amazing things with this event in general, so I can't wait to see what Houston will bring.
It's definitely unfortunate we're leaving here. Hopefully somebody else will pick up an event here because I think the fans would absolutely love that. They love us being here and we absolutely enjoy it.
Q. Lexi, storybook finish to a storybook career here at Mission Hills. What did that last putt mean to you?
LEXI THOMPSON: Oh, it meant the world to me. You know, even though it wasn't for the win or anything like that, I just wanted to finish on a strong note.
And I told my caddie, Will, I'm like, let's just give them something to cheer about.
I know it's the final year here. Hopefully have something else back here, but let's just make a putt. It's such a great feeling. Hearing the cheers and the amount of fans that were out to support us, there is nothing like it.
Q. (Regarding Melissa Montgomery.) You just have the biggest smile on your face right now. How happy are you with your performance?
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I'm just very happy. You know, I stayed in the moment throughout the whole week. I had few rough shots here and there, but I stayed positive even when I hit a bad shot.
I'm learning that helps along the way, and just good to see moving in the right direction with my game and my attitude and everything like that.
