Jennifer Kupcho

Rancho Mirage, California, USA

Mission Hills Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Jennifer Kupcho, round of 64. That ties your career low round on the LPGA. What was working for you today or what wasn't? It was amazing. Tell us how you played.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Everything was working. I mean, seriously this week I think my putting is definitely the props.

I have putted really well, and you got to make putts in a major championship.

Q. So you had four birdies in the first five holes, 2, 3, 4, 5. Was that all the putter right there?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Oh, yeah, for sure.

Q. Can you talk us through those birdies, just some of the highlights?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Honestly it's all a blur. I mean, I hit the fairways, hit the greens, and really was just trying to put smooth putting strokes on them.

That's what I did, and they fell.

Q. Only missed one fairway; just three greens, one of those on the one bogey you had out there. Did you have a good warmup? Did you feel this was in you coming into today?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Not really. I really was just coming out and playing this morning. I got to watch ANWA, so that was pretty cool, and just bring back those good memories.

I don't know if that was positive vibes, but definitely did watch that. I think it helped to get my mind off this tournament by watching that.

Q. And what was it like being out there with Patty, the defending champion, cruising around and coming up here and seeing the crowds at 18 to cheer you on?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, Patty and I are friends. We obviously played college golf together so we're friends.

I think, again, that's another comfort as well as with Lizette the first two days. I think it's just a comfort in being able to talk and have friendly conversations about life.

Q. What does the zone feel like here?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: What do you mean by zone?

Q. You were in the zone, right, today?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I was just playing my game, taking it one shot at a time, not thinking about anything in particular.

Q. Did you get to see the finish of the ANWA?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I did, yeah. I listened to it on the way here. At stop lights I was watching it, but I listened, yeah.

Q. What was the overriding emotion that you had watching it?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I mean, it's awesome for a 16 year old to go there and win. I mean, I can't even imagine what I was doing at 16, so props to her, that's awesome.

It's a great tournament. I'm sure she's really excited.

Q. When was the last time you held a five-shot lead going into a final round?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I don't know. I don't know.

Q. How will you approach it?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Honestly just going out and playing my game. I can't control what anyone else is doing, so if I just go out and play my game -- I mean, someone else can go out and do what I did today.

So really just go out and focus on hitting the fairways and greens and putting good strokes on putts.

Q. Is there ever a time when you tee off thinking, I need to shoot this number?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Oh, yeah. I definitely have a goal in mind every day.

Q. Do you? Okay. What was your goal in mind today?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: 68. I blew that out of the park, but, yeah.

Q. Why 68?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Because I didn't shoot 68 yesterday. That was my goal yesterday and I didn't shoot it yesterday, so today.

Q. Where would you rank today's rounds in terms of the career best rounds you've played?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I don't know. I mean, again, it's all a blur. You're just out there grinding shot by shot. I think that's one thing I've really done it well this week is taking it shot by shot and not thinking about the end result.

Q. How hard is it to take it shot by shot, contend for a major championship, but also soak in the fact this is the last time we're playing The Chevron Championship in its 51st edition?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, it's really special, I mean, just to be out here. I love this place. I love stepping on property. You just get positive vibes. It's such a beautiful course, so I think just taking it all in.

But then again, just once it's time to hit a shot, focusing on that shot.

Q. Who is here with you this week?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Just my husband.

Q. And what will you do tonight?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Go to bed. (Laughter.) Yeah, probably sit on the Normatec for about 40 minutes and take a shower and got to bed.

Q. What will you do in the morning when you have all this free time for a late tee time?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I will probably make myself watch Netflix. It obviously worked today to watch something else and not think about it, so watch a show or read or do something.

Q. Are you in the middle of a series currently?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Bridgerton, yeah.

Q. Good choice.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah.

Q. You said in the off-season you work with your husband on your putting. Have you done any work with him this week on it?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: He came with me over from Aviara last week early, so we came over on Saturday and practiced on Sunday, and he helped me really just to make sure that I was feeling -- I mean, last week I thought I was putting really well. Just the bumpy greens.

So just to make sure everything was set, yeah.
