MIAMI OPEN PRESENTED BY ITAú

March 30, 2022

Jannik Sinner

Miami, Florida, USA

Mixed Zone Interview

F. CERUNDOLO/J. Sinner

4-1 [Ret.]

Q. Can you just explain what happened?

JANNIK SINNER: It's a blister, and I couldn't move. Last game against Nick, I had felt it, and today I tried but it didn't work.

Q. What foot is it on?

JANNIK SINNER: It's right foot.

Q. It just developed yesterday, or it's something that had been developing?

JANNIK SINNER: No, it was yesterday in the last game, as I said, and now today I wanted to try, because maybe (indiscernible) was better. I made first game one slide, and I felt worse and then I couldn't move.

Q. Is it worse for like a specific stroke, like you were feeling like in every movement that you were making?

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, especially when I slide, but also when I move, when it makes contact with the shoe is tough, but we have to figure out and find a way.

Q. When you say it happened towards the last game of the match against Nick, do you feel that it was a moment where you jarred your foot and it developed a blister or what?

JANNIK SINNER: I remember he made a short ball, and I run there and I slide into it with the backhand. I think it was 15-Love for him, and it did happen there.

Yeah, that's it. I mean...

Q. How much padding do you have on the bottom of your foot going out today?

JANNIK SINNER: I have a lot. I had. When I warmed up in the four minutes, I felt good, okay, and on the breakpoint I slide on the forehand, but I was aware already before that I couldn't charge it 100% so I went a little bit.

But after that one, I felt worse than against the match...

Q. How disappointing is it, especially considering you played very well here last year, you were rolling along here?

JANNIK SINNER: It's tough. I mean, I played two tournaments, Indian Wells and Miami, both retired. It's tough because I was playing good.

Yesterday also against Nick I was playing a very good match. It's tough to accept. So yeah.
