Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Minjee Lee, 6-under 66; bogey-free day; best round here since 2018. What was clicking for you out there today?
MINJEE LEE: I mean, I started on the back nine. I think I made maybe three birdies in the first maybe six holes, so off to a pretty nice start.
Just tried to just trust the process, my process, and just have a good back nine. Finished with two birdies, so it was nice.
Q. You had birdies on your back nine, 11, 13, 14, and 18. Any of those particularly good holes? What were the story of those birdies?
MINJEE LEE: My second birdie I had -- it was like kind of weaved through the trees because I hit the cart path and went a little bit left, so that was a nice birdie.
The next hole, the par-3, was tucked left and I made birdie there, too, so really good shot in.
Q. And then I'll just ask about your birdie on the closing hole, No. 9, that got you up into a tie for the lead. Tell us about that one, and did you know it was potentially to get to the top the leaderboard?
MINJEE LEE: Oh, I'm not sure. I didn't even look at the leaderboard. I just really wanted to finish off with a birdie. It was a par-5 so I had a really good drive down there and I think I only had 216 meters to the pin.
Yeah, just hit a little cut 3-wood and just went over the left side, over the back, so yeah, just a chip and a putt.
Q. Seems like pretty pristine scoring conditions out there today. How does the golf course look?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, it was perfect. Not like a breath of wind when we played. Maybe just a tiny bit.
But conditions are great. Putting greens are rolling real nice. I don't think you can get better than that.
Q. Additional confidence coming into a major championship being a major champion?
MINJEE LEE: I think, yeah. I know I have one under my belt, but I do want a little bit more.
So, yeah, I just think I have a little bit more belief in myself and my game so I can be a little bit more comfortable just hitting the shots that I choose.
Q. There is pressure at every major, but is there less knowing that you've already done it once?
MINJEE LEE: Nah. I don't think so. I think the most pressure is the pressure you put on yourself, so, yeah.
Q. What's your most outstanding memory from the first time you came here?
MINJEE LEE: Oh, my first memory here?
Q. Uh-huh.
MINJEE LEE: So my coach has a picture of me jumping up into the mountains, so I jumped and then he took a picture, and was it was my rookie season -- no, amateur, one year as an amateur.
It was just down the first hole and it was when it was Kraft Nabisco still. Yeah, it's just a great picture.
Q. Where is it? Do you have it?
MINJEE LEE: It's in my coach's I guess, what do you call it, like office.
Q. Office?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah.
Q. What will you miss the most about this place?
MINJEE LEE: I just think like the atmosphere, and obviously the golf course is really great and the conditions are always amazing.
I think that's what I will miss most.
Q. You birdied 18 and 9. I think I've seen more people go for 18 in two today than I did all last year.
MINJEE LEE: Yep.
Q. You knocked it on there. Why do you think it might be playing to where you can get there in two without hesitating?
MINJEE LEE: There are two tees, so we were on the up tee today. That's why -- I only had 5-iron in today, so I think if you can get it down the fairway you'll have a pretty good chance to knock it on today.
Q. And you were just off the back, right?
MINJEE LEE: No, I was on the green.
Q. Oh. You're the one that curled it down on the green.
MINJEE LEE: Yeah.
