Augusta, Georgia, USA
Quick Quotes
Q. Tell us about it.
SAVANNAH GREWAL: I really enjoyed the practice round. I got to play with two of my friends, so that's always fun. Greens are firm, so it's just going to be really important to dial in the irons. But the course is in great condition, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow and Thursday.
Q. What are the emotions being here?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: Just super excited, super ready to go. I mean, it felt kind of surreal to finally be here and be on the grounds and get to play Augusta National on Friday, but I'm looking forward to it and just ready to go.
Q. Can you describe how it is to turn around from a college event to playing here?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: I would say just kind of the same mentality. Went into the college event wanting to represent Clemson well. Coming into this event wanting to represent Clemson and Canada really well. So same mentality. Just super dialed in, super focused, just wanting to do my best.
Q. When you think of the culmination of all the hard work it took to get here, what are some of the things that come to mind?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: I think just spending hours on the driving range, putting, chipping. I think just the hours put in missing certain things like going out to parties and hanging out with my friends and just putting in the hours to make sure that I could be here today.
Q. I know you were diagnosed with a heart condition when you were 14. What did that entail?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: So I was diagnosed with SVT when I was 14, so I would get these really weird episodes, and it only happened when I would play golf, where my heart would start racing at 240 beats per minute. It was scary. My vision would go black. I couldn't breathe. I didn't know when it was going to happen, so I'd go to any golf tournament and kind of have that in the back of my mind that hopefully I don't have an episode and I hope I can play this event.
But I had successful surgery back in November of 2020, and I've been healthy since. So don't have that worry anymore, which is nice.
Q. You're playing your best golf now. How does that feel?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: It feels really good. I feel super blessed. I feel like I've been given a really good life. Just thankful for every moment I have and every opportunity I have.
Q. If you told yourself when you were a teenager you'd be one of the top ranked amateurs, what would you think?
SAVANNAH GREWAL: I think I would have been excited, and I think it would have motivated me a lot to push myself harder and keep getting better and keep climbing that WAGR ranking.
