Quick Quotes
Q. How was it today out there?
HAILEY BORJA: It was really great. The course is in really good shape. I'm really excited to play actually. It's super fun. There's some good shots and tricky holes, but it will be great.
Q. With the late addition of Ashley to the field, does that ease things for you, having one of your best friends out there?
HAILEY BORJA: I think for sure. She's one of my best friends on the team. Just to have her out there is great. Another teammate out there, so great.
Q. How have your experiences in USGA and internationally helped you in this top field of players?
HAILEY BORJA: USGA events have similar courses to this one. So it's definitely prepared me for a course like this. Some tricky shots and all that, but just got to grind it out.
Q. Being one of six players from the Big Ten, is there a bond of conference foes?
HAILEY BORJA: Definitely. I think we're all really good friends out there when we compete together. To have a bunch of Big Ten girls out here, I think it's a little partnership.
Q. Was this course everything you expected?
HAILEY BORJA: Definitely no. I think a lot of the approach shots are a little bit longer than I expected. But definitely kind of similar to what USGA events are. So yeah.
Q. Just wanted to ask about the course. These greens are obviously very firm. How do they rank in terms of a challenge from courses you've played in the past?
HAILEY BORJA: Well, I actually just came from an ASU event. So the greens are actually pretty similar as to firmness. So landing it short and letting it release out, it's a really big thing here, so kind of similar to ASU. I think I'm pretty much best prepared as I can be since that event.
Q. How many yards of bounce are you getting depending on the club? Like maybe wedge to 5-iron?
HAILEY BORJA: Yeah, wedge probably a couple yards, like two maybe. If it's like a 5-iron, probably like close to ten, maybe five though, depending on where the pin is.
Q. What are some of the emotions coming into this week?
HAILEY BORJA: Definitely super excited. It's something that I've worked for since this event first started. So just super excited and ready to have some fun out there.
Q. I know you played this past weekend. How was the trip?
HAILEY BORJA: It was great. We had a red eye. So we didn't get here until like 10:30 at the hotel. So I was kind of tired that first day, but got some good night's sleep and a good night's sleep tonight, and I'll be ready for tomorrow.
Q. Are you the kind of player who likes playing consecutive events and kind of building off that momentum, or do you like those breaks in between?
HAILEY BORJA: Definitely the momentum. I think it gets me going. Basically being best prepared in competition, it's different than just practicing.
