Quick Quotes
Q. Here with the hometown gal. What's it like to be back in Carlsbad?
ALANA URIELL: I'm so happy to be sleeping in my own bed, playing on my home course, feeling comfortable. Just all around love being here.
Great weather, too.
Q. How excited were you gearing up for this week?
ALANA URIELL: It's my favorite week of the year being here. Having all my now friends on the LPGA in one place so we can all play this amazing beautiful course.
I get to have all my friends out, my family out here, like huge support team, and also my coach on the bag. So overall like out there just having a good time and enjoying the ride.
Q. First round just one bogey on the closing hole, but despite that a really nice start for you. How are you feeling after day one?
ALANA URIELL: Feels good. Just going out there and acting like it's any other golf course and any other tournament week. Trying to just keep focused and make sure I'm giving it my best on every shot and enjoying the process.
Q. I know you really like this course. What are some of the things that stand out for, and you do you feel like you have sort of an advantage on these greens?
ALANA URIELL: After putting out here for 13, 14 years I would say, yeah, I have a good idea what the greens are going to do. They sometimes can get some weird bumps, but overall like generally feeling very comfortable out here.
Q. You went to high school here?
ALANA URIELL: Yeah, Carlsbad High, uh-huh.
Q. How long have you played here?
ALANA URIELL: At Aviara?
Q. Yes.
ALANA URIELL: 14 years. Yeah, I grew up playing golf here. Like I started -- yeah, I started playing -- like my coach that is on my bag right now has been my coach for 13 years, so we've got a good chemistry, we've got good like process and mechanics going.
Just overall living it. (Laughter.)
Q. So this is the best spot to be.
ALANA URIELL: Yes. I agree. I think with all these golf companies being here, too it's just a haven for golf. Got great weather, amazing course here, and just it's a golf haven.
Q. Ten minutes ago, Razorbacks.
ALANA URIELL: I know. I have them chosen for my Final Four. I have a lot of faith in my Hogs, and rooting for them really hard. If they can do this, oh, they're just so good. They're so good. I love it.
Go Hogs.
Q. Have you followed it all year?
ALANA URIELL: Yeah, made my whole bracket, made everything. I love all the sports on the Hogs, and of course football is like the big thing, so we'll see. We'll see. Hopefully basketball can come through.
Q. Who told you? I know they told you in scoring, but how did you find out?
ALANA URIELL: About like today's score?
Q. About the upset.
ALANA URIELL: I mean, I only heard about it like walking off the course. I can't check my phone or anything out there. It looks like a super exciting game with Gonzaga right now. Oh, my gosh, like...
Q. It's over.
ALANA URIELL: Is it?
Q. Yeah. They won, yeah.
ALANA URIELL: That's -- like I'm over the moon right now. I'm going to go party. (Laughter.)
Q. I love it. Thank you, Alana.
ALANA URIELL: For sure, yeah.
