Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Alison Lee after a pretty solid start to the week, 3-under. Take us through your round.
ALISON LEE: I feel like overall I played pretty solid. Just did my best to stay patient out there. You know, I think it took a while for me to kind of get used to the greens and try and figure out how to read them.
I was missing quite a few birdie opportunities early on, but I feel like I just needed to stay patient and keep giving myself opportunities, and a few fell here and there.
So really happy with my round, and hopefully I can just keep building on that confidence on the putting green. I feel like that's the most important part this week.
Q. As a player that's spent a lot time in California, have you putted on poana a lot?
ALISON LEE: Yes, I have. I grew up in Santa Clarita, so a lot of grass I've practiced on has been poana.
I mean, it's definitely not something you can 100% get used to because it's definitely a little bit tricky, especially as the day goes on.
Thankfully we played pretty early in the morning, so that helps a lot. It's a big advantage when it comes to these kind of greens.
The game plan is just try and hit it as close as you can to the hole, and, yeah, give yourself opportunities, and don't get too down on yourself when you miss a couple good ones.
There is a lot of holes left.
Q. Seeing a lot of really big blue and yellow ribbons on hats today. Tell us about your involvement with that.
ALISON LEE: Yeah, my host mom, Bernie Clark, she's been volunteering a lot with a lot of the local people here trying to gather supplies and everything they can and send them over to Ukraine.
So a lot of -- basically the people who made it were the Ukraine volunteers in San Diego, yeah.
Q. What does it mean to you to be able to facilitate that and to get those on the LPGA Tour? I'm seeing them everywhere right now.
ALISON LEE: Yeah, of course. I mean, especially with us out here, you always want to always help when you can. I feel like being out here on tour you definitely have a big platform and the more people that see it, you can get more supporters here and there.
So I think it's always nice to reach out and always give the helping hand because we can.
Q. Have you like been with this host family before or are they people you had a relationship with?
ALISON LEE: Yes, so their daughter, Aliyah, (phonetic), I went to college with her, and I've known them since we were teenagers, so over ten years.
So whenever I come to this event I stay with them. So Bernie is like my second mom basically, so we're all really close, yeah.
