THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

March 10, 2022

Will Zalatoris

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA

TPC Sawgrass

Quick Quotes

WILL ZALATORIS: I was a little off all day. I had a tough time getting in a rhythm at the end. It's just you've just got to stay ready. I thought coming out of the delay I hit it fine, had a tough time getting kind of our lines down. I kept underreading everything because the greens were a little bit slower, but all in all I had actually kind of a solid day.

Just kind of nice to be disappointed with 69, I guess.

Q. Was it difficult to come back after the delay?

WILL ZALATORIS: No. I mean, it's the same. Every week -- I kind of got used to this on the Korn Ferry my first year out where we had a delay every single week, but I thought if anything it's interesting how quickly this place drains, which is obviously why we were able to get it in today.

But just missing putts basically based off of trying to play stuff a little bit firmer just because I know that they're softer. I missed almost every putt I had low. Just got to be a little bit higher and obviously -- I don't know when I'm going to be playing again, obviously, so we'll just kind of stay ready and see where we go from there.

Q. Is there some level of expectation (indiscernible).

WILL ZALATORIS: Yeah, totally. Anytime you've got a 3:30 wake-up call and finishing I don't even know what time it is right now -- tomorrow the weather is not looking great, either, so if anything just expect to play super late, maybe get a few holes in at best. Like I said, you just stay ready whenever your tee time is.

Q. What is the biggest kind of drag about playing in this kind of weather?

WILL ZALATORIS: I mean, I had every variation of outerwear on today. Rain pants, rain jacket, rain glove, all of it off, maybe a regular jacket, throw the umbrella in there. I kind of was starting to get into a little bit of a rhythm and then we got pulled in and just was kind of flat after that.

Like I said, missing the putt on 16 obviously kind of hurts the momentum, but like I said, we underread everything I hit today. Every single putt that I missed was low. Part of that, too, is just the greens are a little bit slower and they're breaking a little bit more, and last week with no friction on the greens, it was weird because the greens were so fast, there was no friction, so you actually needed to play the putts straighter.

It was a little bit different, but like I said, it's kind of a nice -- nice to be disappointed with 69, and I feel that the stuff to fix is easy.

Q. Speaking of last week, we heard a lot of mixed reviews. What did you think of it?

WILL ZALATORIS: It's how Mr. Palmer would have wanted it. If you're complaining, there's a pretty big paycheck at the end of the day, and everyone is playing the same golf course. No matter what it is, it is what it is. Yeah, shooting 44 on the front was definitely not fun on Sunday, but like I said, it's more operator error than anything.

Q. When is the last time you shot 44?

WILL ZALATORIS: It's probably been 13 or 14 years.
