March 7, 2022

Gerald Mattinson

Tommi Olson

Alba Sanchez Ramos

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Thomas & Mack Center

Wyoming Cowgirls

Postgame Press Conference

Colorado State - 51, Wyoming - 38

THE MODERATOR: We'll start with an opening statement from coach and then take questions for the student-athletes.

GERALD MATTINSON: Well, first, I would like to just to congratulate CSU. I thought they played very well. I wish them the best of luck as they move on.

I told the kids, some nights it's your night, some nights it's not, and tonight we didn't get it done and that's what happens. But it doesn't deter from a great year for these young women and we'll see what happens. But congratulations to them and good luck and we'll go from there.

THE MODERATOR: Okay. Questions for the student-athletes, please.

Q. You guys got to the line only four times. How big do you think that was a factor in the outcome of the game?

TOMMI OLSON: It's definitely a big factor because most of our games we usually get to the line more and make more free throws than the other team. So I think when we miss those opportunities at the free-throw line that is a game changer and that was huge.

ALBA SANCHEZ RAMOS: I think we definitely needed those free points.

Q. It was great season. Could you guys reflect real quick on what it meant to you?

ALBA SANCHEZ RAMOS: Well, it's my last year here. It was a great season. We did great in last month and we just came up short today.

TOMMI OLSON: I think we had a great year. We overcame a lot of things. The traveling schedule wasn't ideal for us, but we made it work, and like any other team in the Mountain West, you take advantage of what you're given and I think we learned to cherish a lot of small things and overall we had a good year, just, again, like she said, we came up short.

THE MODERATOR: Okay. Ladies, thank you. At this time let's take questions directed to our head coach.

Q. Obviously a tough fourth quarter. From your perspective was the shots not falling the only difference in that fourth quarter?

GERALD MATTINSON: Well, shots not falling, I thought they did a very good job defensively. I heard Ryun talk about they were there on the catches, they were there, they made everything tough. And we had some opportunities and you got to have some baskets go in. You can look back and go, Well, that one was there, that one was there, that one was there. But it is what it is, and like I said, once again, this has kind of been us all year long, those of you that followed us. We only gave up 51 points. The problem is, we only scored 38. Early that was our problem in the year and then we got over it and then we would have a game every now and then where we would only give up 40 and only score 40.

So, but, you know, CSU played well, they're playing well, and that's what you got to do, you go to come down -- and we know that first hand -- put together three or four good days and that's what it's all about and they are right now.
