Quick Quotes
Q. Can you talk about the ace you witnessed today because you don't get to see that a lot. What did you see? How did you react? How did the crowd react?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It took a little while to go in. Ted and I were just talking. The pin on 13 was a bad pin, and Max, it was a really good putt. It ended up 12 feet by the hole. He hit four good shots on that hole and made 5, which he didn't deserve. So it was kind of a little bit of a makeup seeing that ball go in.
Q. Scottie, do you feel like you played yourself back into this tournament?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I didn't really feel out of it at the beginning of the day, but sure.
Q. How difficult were the conditions?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: The greens like -- it's hard to putt on them because you don't know if there's going to be friction. There's so little grass, so sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't. With the wind the way it is, if you're putting even uphill putts, the wind is affecting them so much that it's so difficult to putt the greens.
Q. If one of your shots is going to be on ESPN tonight, which one would you pick to put on?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I have no idea (laughter). I didn't really do anything crazy out there today that I can think of. Honestly, I can't really think of one.
Q. Max's?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Max's hole-in-one.
Q. Does he owe you a drink or not?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think he owes all of us a drink. Isn't that how it works?
Q. Are you going to get it? That's the question.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: We'll see. Maybe he'll buy me Gatorade in the locker room or something.
Q. What kind of memory do you have? You go back to a course you played last year, even if you didn't win, can you remember shots?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: No. Long term, yes. Short term, I have really bad short term memory. Long term is really good. So I remember certain shots. I remember how certain places played. I would say it's harder for me to remember three weeks ago than it is maybe when I played this tournament two years ago. I don't know how that works but -- I remember some stuff, but it's not like I can go back and tell you each round.
I do remember the weekend here last time. I think I shot 150 on the weekend and maybe moved up spots on the leaderboard two years ago. We're getting pretty similar conditions today. Maybe just a little bit less momentum.
Q. You talk about lack of on the breaks. What else does that remind you of? Are there any other tournaments like that? Maybe not that fast break, but in terms of the ball sliding into the break and that kind of stuff?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I haven't played a U.S. Open on Bermuda. So Bermuda is a totally different surface. Last time I can remember playing like this is probably two years ago here. I can't recall Bermuda greens being like this because usually in the summertime when it gets really hot, we're usually in the north, where they only have bent greens or poa annua.
I would say the closest thing would be the U.S. Open. I'm trying to think of the last few courses we played. I didn't play Shinnecock. I got COVID during Winged Foot. Torrey had a totally different surface. Oakmont was wet the year I played. Erin Hills, no. I don't think so.
Last time I felt something like this where I'm sitting the putter down and it's moving, like you can't get it to stay still on the green, like put it down, and it goes phww, phww, phww. Probably this tournament two years ago.
