Quick Quotes
Q. Tell me about the putt to win it, the 25-footer.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I've had a few putts on this green now. I started to have it figured out pretty good. Teddy and I had a good read on this one. There's a little flat spot there that does something weird to the putts; it kind of keeps them to the right. Patrick missed both his putts right there to the right in the playoff, and that's where I missed mine to win in regulation.
It's kind of a tricky hole location. This one we got a good read on it and it chased down nicely.
Q. Did you think you had missed your opportunity when you missed from 5'5" at the end of regulation?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: No. I mean, if anything I just hit the putt too hard, so I knew what I was supposed to do, I think maybe we over-read it, maybe I hit it a little too hard. Whatever it is, I felt like my game was in a good spot, and if you would have told me on 13 tee that I was going to be in a playoff to win, I would have been pretty pleased, so I just reminded myself of that.
Q. Pulled off those three birdies in a row on the way in. Finished like a champion. That chip on the second playoff hole was very difficult, as well.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it was pretty tough. I really don't know what to say. My head is kind of spinning right now, but that was nice for sure.
Q. I saw you play as a junior in the North Dallas area, as a Longhorn at the University of Texas, Korn Ferry, amateur events and major championships and now you are a PGA TOUR winner. Your final thoughts?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It feels great. I'm very pleased. I'm very thankful. Yeah, that's about it.
Q. What is your immediate reaction to have this entire day play out for you?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Right now I'm pretty tired. It was a long day. It was a grind. I'm just very pleased with how things played out today.
Q. We're standing here on the 18th green. How were you able to regroup from missing the birdie putt to win in regulation but then yet to roll that long one in three holes later?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, so the putt in regulation, I didn't hit a bad putt. It didn't feel great coming off the face, but I think I just hit it through the break. I think there was a little bit of excitement, whatever it was. If you would have told me on 13 tee I was going to be in a playoff, I would have been pleased. I felt a little bit out of it at that point, so to finish with four birdies coming in to get in a playoff was pretty nice.
Q. What were the emotions and nerves like coming down the stretch, especially in the playoff against Patrick?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, Patrick is obviously a phenomenal player, and I knew one of us was going to have to make a birdie. Par wasn't going to do it. This is a really hard tee ball for me. It's hard for me to get it in play, so I knew if I had an opportunity I really had to take advantage of it.
Q. What does it feel like to finally break through?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: You know, I don't know. I played pretty poorly the first two days. As bad as I've scored with how good I've been playing, I've been playing great and I was getting so frustrated because I was scoring so poorly. To kind of put things together yesterday and get through all the mistakes I made today and still pull it out is pretty --
Q. How would you characterize the journey as a six-year-old starting with Randy Smith to now at age 25 you're right there and you're now a PGA TOUR winner?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's amazing. There's so many people I need to thank right now. I'm not going to thank anybody besides my family and Randy because I'm going to forget half the people. I'm just really thankful.
