THE PANAMA CHAMPIONSHIP

February 5, 2022

Jimmy Stanger

Panama City, Panama

Press Conference

Q. I think today was a different round of golf out there. Walk me through your day and how the course was.

JIMMY STANGER: A little nervous to start the round, didn't get off to the best start. First hole just super proud of the way I was able to battle and not gets ahead of myself.

(Wind noise.)

Q. Scores were not near as low today. Is there any one particular part of the day that you think had an effect on that?

JIMMY STANGER: The wind is brutal. This is one of the toughest golf courses we play all year and you just can't get anything close to the pin.

(Wind noise.) It's just tough.

Q. What's it been like being in contention for now three days in a row heading into the final round?

JIMMY STANGER: Yeah, great question. I think the word that I've been trying to think through as I've thought through that the last few days is just very thankful. I know 2021 was a tough year because really the entire season on the Korn Ferry I wasn't in contention and I love competing, I'm a competitor at heart, I've always been one, it just really drained my love for the game and my ability to, just my ability to work really hard at it.

And I put in a lot of time this off-season, so thankful that I'm out here and that I'm able to compete and able to have a chance to win this tournament.

Q. What are the feelings being in the lead going into tomorrow?

JIMMY STANGER: It's just, again, it's just a blessing, it's going to be so much fun to come patent tomorrow. This is such a tough golf course that if you take your eye off the ball for one swing it's trouble.

So we're just going to take it one shot at a time and hopefully at the end of tomorrow we're still talking.

Q. So at the end of tomorrow, there's something on the line there, going into tomorrow do you go one shot at a time or is it going to be hard to take your eye off of the main focus?

JIMMY STANGER: I won't change my mindset. It's the same idea of just one shot at a time, try to hit quality shots, make quality swings, make quality moves and we'll see what happens at the end of the day. If the course plays anywhere near as hard as it did today that's going to be the mindset.

Q. One round to go what are you hoping to achieve in round four tomorrow?

JIMMY STANGER: Just excited to see what the competition brings out of me. It's going to be helpful, whatever happens, it's going to teach me a lot about what's inside of me, what my golf swing does, the putts that I can hit under pressure and I'm going to be able to learn and adjust from that.

So I would love to win it tomorrow but no matter what I'm excited to because I know I'm going to learn something that's going to be incredibly valuable.

Q. What's it's a prep tonight look like heeding into tomorrow?

JIMMY STANGER: No phone tonight, putting the phone down and not looking at it until after the round tomorrow. But otherwise it's going to be go get some good food and get some good sleep.
