Quick Quotes
Q. What were your impressions of the round? There were some ups and some downs out there. Just missed a nice long -- I think that was a birdie on 18.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Oh, on the actual 18? That's the one I just left it short.
Q. What were overall impressions of your round today? I know you know this course really well. Did you play it way you would've hoped?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah, after a long off-season it's always good to get out some of the kinks. Could have been lower, could have been higher. I think I'm in a good spot going in for the rest of the week.
Didn't shoot myself out of it, so it's good.
Q. It's a vibe you don't get to experience very often, to see all these familiar faces in the gallery and stuff like that. Does that help you or do you just get in the game zone? Do you see that? Does that give you a little boost knowing you got that extra support?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Well, I know like my mom and all my close friends are here, so I just try and tune it out. This is my job and I'm in the zone. Then after I talk to everyone. It's nice to know I have the support.
Q. So the all around four day -- hopefully four-day experience -- afterwards you're not going back to a hotel. Does that help flourish the whole weekend and get you in a more positive vibe?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I hope it flourishes over the weekend. I know I'm definitely going to go back to my house and take a nap with my dog, so that's exciting. Kind of don't feel at a tournament when I'm home until I finally step on property, so hopefully that heaps me flourish this weekend.
Q. Too bad your dogs can't come out.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I know. It's too hot for them right now. Too long.
Q. I never got to talk to you because it's been a while. I know that the bike accident was a really hard thing for you. It's hard to say this like this, but what positive came out of that? I know there is always a positive that comes out of everything?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Oh, yeah definitely.
Q. Can you tell me a little bit about that?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I think the good I took out of the accident would probably be it's like giving yourself grace. I remember I was so mad at myself for even riding my bike on the street. I'm like you know what, what am I going to be a robot my whole life and not experience life?
I think I also being smart. Like not that I wasn't smart, but just being able to know I can have fun and not every time you're going to get in an accident. So I just kind of felt mad at myself for even letting myself do that.
You know, at the end of the day I'm actually grateful I have a life outside of golf.
Q. There you go. One more thing: How do you tackle the course tomorrow in round two? What would you do differently? It's always a learning experience.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I just hope more putts fall tomorrow. I hit the ball well. I think I only missed one fairway, one or two fairways and only two greens, so the ball-striking is there. It's just getting some of the putts to fall.
Q. Overall, how do you feel about your swing? You mentioned your putting could have been better, but everything else is good?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah. I hit it really solidly today. The first tournament back you're always trying to work out some kinks, a little rust. There are things I've been working on, and sometimes it improves and sometimes you're kind of back at square one.
So I'm just taking it how it is and just do the best I can.
Q. Okay, so in that light, overall pleased or...
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Well, yeah, it's not good when you bogey the 16th hole, but I -- hang on, let me think. I think overall for the first round of 2022, for once in my life I feel prepared going into a season.
To shoot under par, yeah, I'm happy. My goal is to win, so of course I want to play good.
Q. I remember two years ago here I think it was round three where you really turned up the heat there and played well.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah, thank you.
Q. Yeah, yeah. So what's your dog's name?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I have Boo and Kona.
Q. Yeah.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I'm going to wear them out and we're going to all take a nap together.
Q. He was asking about family and friends. I saw that tall, white-haired guy.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah, my dad. He's always lurking around.
Q. But it's like he tries to stay out of the way.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: I think he knows how noticeable he is. He's like, Oh, gosh I don't want her to see me from 300 yards away, because I could.
Q. It's good for me because I see him on the range and I say, okay, Jaye must be nearby.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah, I know. I know, it's really special to have -- today I had a lot of family, friends, and my fiancé's family. He didn't get to come out but they're all out here, which is awesome.
I know tomorrow there will be a lot of people I know, so it was nice to ease into it teeing off at 7:20 today. It's like a nice good start into the week.
Q. Yeah, I barely made it in time for you to tee off, and then, yeah, it was pretty early, pretty gray out.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Oh, yeah, I couldn't see the first two holes. It was really dark. Brooke probably couldn't see.
Q. Yeah, how did the course play?
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Really good. It's just they got rain so the fairways are very soft. Played lift, clean, and place today. I had a hard time adjusting to green speeds. All off-season I been practicing on greens rolling 12, 13, and these were probably 10.5, so I really struggled with my tempo on getting putts to the hole.
So I'll go do that, but I'm going to go practice and probably speed up the greens tomorrow, so, yeah.
Q. You'll figure it out quick.
JAYE MARIE GREEN: Yeah.
