Press Conference
A. BARTY/I. Swiatek
6-2, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Talk us through the match today, how you feel your first week of the year went.
IGA SWIATEK: Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty happy with my results here. Obviously my draw wasn't easy. From the beginning I had tough matches. I played really solid game against Leylah and yesterday against Vika.
Basically, yeah, today was also a good match. I think it was more even than the score says. I'm happy with my performance. Of course I'm not satisfied because I lost today. I know what mistakes I've done.
At this point that was all I could do today so, yeah, I gave my 100%.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. How much positivity do you take out of what you accomplished this week?
IGA SWIATEK: Well, as I said at the beginning, I wasn't really thinking about being a defending champion because this tournament is different. It's the beginning of the season. My only goal was to play some solid matches and just find a rhythm on the court, and I did that. That's really positive.
Basically I took a lot of experience from that because right now I know that I can have more variety in terms of my game style. Yeah, just finding a balance maybe sometimes between that is going to give me a lot.
I implemented all that stuff that we worked on and that my coach was telling me to do. At the beginning I wasn't like 100% sure. Then on matches it showed me that actually my game is getting better and better.
Yeah, it was pretty positive week in terms of that.
Q. Do you know what your plan is for next week?
IGA SWIATEK: Well, basically we are buying tickets to Sydney but there are some things that I have to discuss. We're going to see how the discussions are going to go basically.
