Press Conference
M. INGLIS/D. Kovinic
6-4, 1-6, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Talk us through the match a little bit.
MADDISON INGLIS: Yeah, sure. It was a bit of a tough match. Danka is a really good player. I felt like I started the match really well. Obviously got the first set. Then she played really well in the second. I just came back a bit stronger at the end I think to finish it off.
It was good. It was a good match.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Pretty hot today. End of the second set there was a break that came probably not at a bad time for you. How did you refocus after the second set?
MADDISON INGLIS: Yeah, it actually worked out really well for me because I was a little bit frustrated after the second set, losing it quite easily. Then they said we have a 10-minute break. I just used it to kind of refocus, cool down a little bit, then just think about what I did in the first set, just tried to do that again in the third. I think it went really well today.
Q. In terms of looking to next week, knowing you have that secured, does that change the way you approach matches of you want to get this right ahead of next week instead of you have to win?
MADDISON INGLIS: Yeah, I mean, it's obviously awesome to get a few matches in before AO next week, especially a long match like today with lots of time on court and a tough opponent. I think it's been really good preparation here in Adelaide for Melbourne next week. I'm really looking forward to it.
Q. A big game in the third set serving at 2-All. Digging yourself out of that hole, you won the next four games. A huge moment.
MADDISON INGLIS: Yeah, I was in a little bit of trouble in that game. I thought I did well to get out of that and eventually win the game. Wouldn't have been ideal going down a break in the third.
She was serving really well, so there was pressure on me to hold there. So, yeah, I think I did pretty well to play a few tough points and get out of that situation.
Q. Your next match, Tamara Zidansek. What is the focus in terms of being able to progress past that one?
MADDISON INGLIS: Yeah, actually I've never played Tamara, never practiced with her. I've got a little bit of work to do tonight to come up with a bit of a game plan for tomorrow.
I mean, she's obviously a really good player and a really good competitor after a really long match today. I'm looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and hopefully having a battle.
