LPGA Q-SERIES

December 8, 2021

Kristy McPherson

Mobile, Alabama, USA

Magnolia Grove

Quick Quotes

Q. So made it through week one. How is first week in Mobile?

KRISTY McPHERSON: It was a little rough. Didn't play as well as I wanted. Was happy to get through to here, but hitting it a little bit better now, and so, you know, the main thing is the get four more days.

Struggled a little Sunday but still get four more days to go at it now.

Q. So being 40 - I'm not saying you're old; you're not; you and Alena Sharp are probably the oldest players in the field this week -- what does it feel like for you to be out here with all the youngsters?

KRISTY McPHERSON: They're a bunch of kids. I could literally be their mother, some of them. Sharpy definitely makes me feel better when she's here with me.

I always say I want to play on tour when Cristie Kerr is playing or Angela Stanford is playing. Always makes me feel better.

But, yeah, obviously at 40 I don't want to be back at Q-Series, but just wasn't a great year and always want to get better status.

So as long as you want to work at it and compete and want to get better at it, then I think you got to come and still chase your dreams.

Q. For sure. Having been here a few times do you kind of feel a little bit like you're not as stressed out about things?

KRISTY McPHERSON: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing. When you come -- obviously we have some sort of the status next year, but obviously want to get better status.

Definitely, you know, I mean, we know the process and we know that it's a lot of mental game, eight rounds, every shot is important.

But it's more of a mental game than anything. It's kind of like U.S. Open. You got to come in here and be mentally strong. I think that that is an advantage of playing so many years on tour and second time at Q-Series. I think that's definitely an advantage. I've done it before.

Q. You have any funny stories about some of the kids that you been playing with the past week or so?

KRISTY McPHERSON: No really funny -- I mean, I played with Choi who's 30 something in the world. Obviously she's in second now. She's really impressive. We didn't talk a whole lot. It's just nice to watch her game and see what the young kids are doing.

Obviously they hit it a little further than me and I got to chip it and putt it well to be able to compete with them, but I try to avoid the age conversation because I feel like when I ask her how old she is she's going to point towards her dad when I say 40 and be like, Oh, he's 40.

So I try to avoid the age conversation with the kids.

But it's fun to play with them. It's fun to see. I mean, LPGA is in a good spot. Got a lot of talent coming up and a lot of the top players in the world out here this week that are going to do well on the LPGA for years to come.

Q. Last question: Besides better status, what are some of the goals this week?

KRISTY McPHERSON: You know, this week you got to be patient. It's tough golf course. A little tougher than the last week. You got to miss it in the right spots on the greens. Greens are a little crazy here this week. Definitely got to be in the right spot, on the right tier.

Just going to try to stay patient. Didn't do that as well, as well as I wanted to last week, but really just try to hit a lot of fairways, greens, and give yourself a lot of opportunities.

And pars are a good score this week. Obviously got to make some birdies and move up from the position I'm in now, but pars are good scores. It's going to be tougher, which is the kind of golf course when you're 40 something, you rather be a tougher golf course to where that will give a better opportunity to move up.
