THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Two really tough matches here. How do you reflect on your experience at these finals?

JOHN ISNER: It was a fun experience. I just wish, you know, in a team competition, I wish I could have helped my team out more, and I didn't. It's pretty disappointing. You know, you feel like you sort of let the guys down. I mean, I know they don't feel that way, but it's hard for me not to feel that way.

That's really the beauty of these competitions. It's the beauty of it, and it's the beast of it too. You can be the person that doesn't contribute. That was me.

Q. Seemed like you have some real perspective. You have had some real highs in Davis Cup over the years. Does that help put in perspective the tougher times?

JOHN ISNER: Yeah, no, for sure. I have had a lot of good moments in Davis Cup, but I have had a lot of bad moments too. I think anyone that's played in competition a lot can say the same.

It was certainly a tough one out there today. You know, I think even if I won that match in three sets, I think it's unlikely we would have advanced anyways. This new format is cool, it's unique. It just didn't go our way.

Q. Frances managed to get his first-ever Davis Cup win today. He was the last to come in and he was on vacation. What did you make of how he got through that one?

JOHN ISNER: Yeah, that's a very good question. I'm glad you asked that.

I thought it was extremely impressive what Frances did. I thought what his opponent did, as well, was very impressive. But Frances to literally answer the call off of vacation, like actually vacation, and come here and play for this team and play for his country and play like that today, that was no small feat, because he had shut down his year, but he had to gear back up. That's really not easy to do, not easy to do at all.

What he did out there today I thought was very impressive.

Q. It was a unique situation today knowing that you kind of had to have it in straights. How do you think that influenced a match, knowing that going in?

JOHN ISNER: Yeah, it was one of those things, we try not to think about it too much, but it's hard to do that. You know, you try not to scoreboard watch, but we were a little bit. You know, you try to -- I mean, I guess going in this match, best thing we could do is win six sets in a row. We knew was going to be tough. That just didn't happen. We were up against it when this day started. Ultimately it was too big of a hill to climb for us.

Q. Throughout the match, how was Mardy able to help you in some of those key moments throughout the match?

JOHN ISNER: Well, he was great. I mean, Mardy, great honor for me to play under him. He's a guy that I played against a bunch.

Yeah, he's a great Davis Cup captain. We have had a lot of good ones over the years, and he certainly fits in well. Our result here is, my opinion, definitely not on him at all. We fought hard, and we really enjoy our time with him.
