MIKE BREY: Well, this is the second time I've been matched up with them and I always worry about them getting us. We played them in Maui in 2017 and, especially for us, we invest a lot last night and have a disappointing finish against a really good team, obviously, in St. Mary's.
But I thought we were ready to go. They shot the heck out of it and I just thought we were more poised offensively than the night before and that was an area we talked about growing. So I told them in the locker room, Let's get out of this city 2-1.
Only one team leaves 3-0 in these MTEs. If you can escape 2-1, and you have a chance to beat a SEC team, obviously, in Texas A&M. So we'll go back and prepare.
Q. (No microphone.)
DANE GOODWIN: We talked about it in the locker room. We needed to come out firing. We needed to come out and have the intensity that we had, and we went on that 21-0 run. It really came from a bunch of guys. It started on the defensive end and we talked about that, we needed to do that on the defensive end. They were hitting shots all over.
We came out ready and we shared the ball well and got some open looks, so I think that was the case in the whole second half.
Q. People look at the score and say, well, Notre Dame struggled. You mentioned the offense. What other things do you think you take away as pluses for this because this time of year everyone's trying to grow their team?
MIKE BREY: No question. I talked to them about that during the game even when our lead was big in the second half. We didn't dribble as much. I thought we had it on the floor a lot last night, and some of that was St. Mary's defense because they can really play, as we have seen for two nights.
But I just thought we were antsy and anxious and we swung it -- we played on one side of the floor and we reversed it better tonight and moved it. And you're right. Everybody's looking for therapy to grow their team right now. And this is our fourth game, so, again, some growth on the offensive end, something to talk about.
DANE GOODWIN: Yeah, as coach said, I thought we really shared it a lot better, played out of the post a good amount too, playing through Paul and Nate. It really gave us some good looks and I think taking the ball out of our hand and passing it more, getting some good movement off the ball helped us. We talked about that in shoot around today and it's nice to see it carry over to the game.
