November 14, 2021
Milano, Italia
Press Conference
C. ALCARAZ/S. Korda
4-3, 4-2, 4-2
Q. How are you feeling after winning the title?
CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, I feel amazing. It's pretty good to end the year in the best way possible, winning this title, playing great matches against great players. I mean, it's the best way to finish the year.
Q. You played with so much confidence in those big points, so aggressively, is that something that you sort of worked on over the last year or has that been your mindset ever since you were sort of growing up?
CARLOS ALCARAZ: No, it's something that I'm working for. I mean, Juan Carlos tells me that in the best, in the tough moments you have to play aggressive, you have to go for it, and that's what I did.
I mean, I'm working on that, to be calm in the tough moments, and that's the key for winning the tough points, the tough moments, to go for it.
Q. Obviously here in Milan there's been different rules that we have in place, the court-side coaching, the one-minute warm-up, for example, any of them you really liked and you would want to take on to Tour and if so why?
CARLOS ALCARAZ: There are some rules that I would like to keep for ATP, like the coaching, but there are a lot of other rules that I don't really like.
For example, the one minute of warm-up, you have no time to warm up. I mean, I would say for the player, you can't warm up everything, every shot, the volley, the serve, the backhand, the forehand, at all.
I mean, I would say that you have to warm up four minutes to play forehands, backhands, volley, serve, smash, everything to start the match in the best way possible. There are some rules that I would keep and there are some other rules that I don't really like.
Q. How would you reflect on your season overall then? You have your first title, Tour-level title, you beat Stefanos at the US Open, how was the season overall for you?
CARLOS ALCARAZ: I mean, it has been a really good season for me. I'm really happy for the moments that I lived.
For example, I would say Tsitsipas, beating Stefanos in the US Open, the quarterfinals in the Grand Slam, win my first ATP.
But I think this experience wouldn't be possible without the experience that I got in other tournaments like Madrid, playing against Rafa, in Acapulco playing against Zverev, there are a lot of tournaments, matches that I played that gave me a lot of experience to be able to get more mature so soon.
So, yeah, I'm really happy for the season and the moments that I did.
