Q. Good start for you at 3-under. How did it feel to put a solid under-par round together to start this tournament?
LYDIA KO: Yeah, I love playing with Sophia. She's an absolute charm. It is true. I did on the third round actually.
Q. Last year.
LYDIA KO: Yeah. I was this a really good group with Ally and Sophia, so just very like chill out there.
No, I played solid. I think when I was out of position, when I missed the green, I was able to make really good saves. I think I had a lot of opportunities for birdies and I didn't really roll many in. I chipped in for an eagle on 7, and then holed a putt on the 18th, which is my 9th hole.
Other than that, I thought the ball striking was fairly good. Hopefully be able to roll a few more in. Yeah, definitely a solid start to this tournament.
Q. You know more than anybody, I guess we all know golf is not a perfect game, especially on this course with all the undulations and false fronts and roll-offs. I would imagine short game is a big factor in climbing the leaderboard. How difficult are the greens, and how much does a strong short game come into play here?
LYDIA KO: This is the fastest greens I've putted on all year. I think Founders Cup and Portland was probably the two fastest that I had heard, but I didn't play those two so this is the fastest one that I've putted on. So just I think speed control is so important. Normally 15 feet uphill you're pretty aggressive, but here I think you have to play the slope a little bit.
So, yeah, hitting on the greens is important, but also hitting in the right sections of the green is just as important. I think when you have slope that you can use, try and be creative and use that to your advantage.
