WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

November 11, 2021

Kan Bunnabodee

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Quick Quotes

Q. Kan, thank you so much for joining us. What an incredible round from you here at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific. 8-under 64, tying the lowest round in the championship's history. Wow, must be very happy.

KAN BUNNABODEE: First of all, thank you so much. I'm impressed that I could shoot this low score, this is my first time shooting 8-under.

Q. Well, I was just about to say this is the first time you've had a score that low. What was your previous low score?

KAN BUNNABODEE: 7-under, so it's pretty close.

Q. Now, were you aware of what the championship's lowest score was when you were out there on the course?

KAN BUNNABODEE: No, I actually didn't think about making the lowest score in WAAP or anything. I was just enjoying myself playing golf, make some birdies, and it just keep scoring lower and lower. So it's pretty nice.

Q. When you reached that 7-under mark and you knew for yourself that was equaling your personal best, did you start to get a little bit nervous, or were you thinking?

KAN BUNNABODEE: Actually I got a bit nervous, so that's why the last putt on 18th hole was so bad. But still it was one of the best putts today.

Q. Tell me, when you saw that putt sink, how did you feel?

KAN BUNNABODEE: You mean the whole round?

Q. No, just on that last one when you knew that you had shot the 8-under.

KAN BUNNABODEE: I thought wow to myself because I didn't think it would go in. I just aimed to the line and then took the putt, and it just went in. Then I thought, okay, that's nice.

Q. Now, you were on quite a roll out there. You had seven birdies in eight holes. Talk to us about that little run of birdies there.

KAN BUNNABODEE: Actually, I didn't start my round very well because I started with a bogey, and then it was slow moving for me, on holes 1, 2, 3. And then hole 4, was when I started to make birdies. Then holes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. I just hit it to the flag and made some putts.

I think I'm just in the zone at this stage, so everything's going my way.

Q. Is it really exciting when you get into that zone where you're just making birdie after birdie?

KAN BUNNABODEE: It was really good because I felt as though everything was so nice. It's such a beautiful day outside and I was making it, making it. It's incredible out there.

Q. Obviously, 8-under out there today is quite a turnaround from your 3-over yesterday.

KAN BUNNABODEE: Oh, yes.

Q. What was the difference between yesterday and today?

KAN BUNNABODEE: Basically, I feel like yesterday I didn't do well with distance control, so basically I hit it over the green or short of the green and basically went in to the bunkers. I have a hard time doing up and downs around the green, so that's why I played 3-over yesterday.

Today it was different because I went back and practiced and improved my game a bit. So it went almost to the pin.

Q. Did you work on anything in particular yesterday afternoon?

KAN BUNNABODEE: Yes, I was working on my second approach shot basically, with my irons. Also my putting.

Q. Now, you've moved yourself right up the leaderboard. You must be very confident heading into the next two rounds.

KAN BUNNABODEE: Yes, for sure. It just gave me a lot of confidence that I can do well again in the next two rounds. So I hope it will happen again.

Q. All the Thai girls are playing very well -- yourself, Sim. What's the atmosphere amongst the Thai team?

KAN BUNNABODEE: Yeah, coming from the States, coming from Purdue and seeing my friends again, Thai friends, it just feels like home even though I'm not at home. So sitting around and laughing and working and practicing together, it just feels so great.
