WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

November 11, 2021

Ashley Lau

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Quick Quotes

Q. Ashley, thank you so much for joining us. 3-under in the second round of the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific, 6-under par total. Very consistent performance from you so far.

ASHLEY LAU: Yeah, I would say it was definitely a slow start of the day for me. I parred my first 11 holes. I drained a 25-footer on the 12th, and that got me going for the rest of the day.

Q. Talk to us about that hole where you made your first birdie there.

ASHLEY LAU: Honestly, I wasn't expecting it. I was actually on the fringe. I wasn't on the green, and it was a downhill left to righter. I was just like I'm going to two-putt this, and it went in. I was like, okay, I'm going to keep on rolling.

Made birdies on 6 and 7 as well. So yeah, 3-under.

Q. And bogey-free, that must always fill you with some confidence?

ASHLEY LAU: Yeah, today was definitely a day where you just hit it on the green, 20-footer, and you putt. So it was that kind of a day where the pars came really easily. I didn't really have to do a lot of work to make pars.

Q. When you are going on such a long run of excellent golf and just pars, does it start getting a bit frustrating, you're having to kind of keep your cool so as not to force it?

ASHLEY LAU: Honestly today I told myself just don't expect anything. My goal coming into today or starting the round today was really to not try and force anything, and I really achieved my goal because I told myself just stay patient. You're playing some great golf, and it's just not dropping. So just stay patient and it will come.

Q. Do you feel like that will be the same game plan heading into the next two days?

ASHLEY LAU: Yeah, that and really just to enjoy the game throughout the next two days.

Q. Talk to us about your experience so far here at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific.

ASHLEY LAU: I love it. First time in Abu Dhabi. I don't think I would have ever come here if it wasn't for this tournament. And the food's amazing. I'm getting spoiled by dessert. So I'm going to be very sad when I go back to the states.
