Quick Quotes
Q. Solid round today; just kind of take us through it.
BEATRICE WALLIN: Well, I kind of got the momentum going a little later, though. I was still hitting drivers like to right spots and then hit it to the green and made a two-putt. It was kind of easy, by-the-book kind of golf today. Then made a birdie and kind of got into it a little better. Hit some better shots.
I feel like I had a lot of -- I hit a lot of greens and made it easy that way and just two-putted and went to the next one.
I don't want to use the word simple, but it was more like that way. I like the course. It's awesome.
Q. Coming into this week you were on an exemption. You didn't have to play stage 1. How much of a relief is it to be here without having to have gone through that grind?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Well, I feel like it's both a relief but then I'm more nervous because I don't know how it is. I think the people going to stage 1, they know more how it's going to be. It's a long week, and the nerves and the pressure you put on yourself. Meanwhile, I don't know what to expect, and I was super nervous on the first hole.
I feel like it's both. Of course really even don't have to play the first one and then also a good thing to do it. I don't know how to think about it, but definitely helped me.
Q. What were some of your expectations coming into the week still being at Florida State, still being an amateur, still playing under Amy Bond?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Of course they are high. This is my first time. I don't know what to expect, but I know that it's a lot of good players, so you have to play well. But there is not much you can do. You just play your own game and hit a couple of fairways and greens and hopefully you make some putts, and you will be there, too, in the top. Just play my game and hope for the best.
Q. We saw a special someone out here watching yesterday; is it okay to ask you about him?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Yeah.
Q. So you're dating John Pak. What's that mean to have his support on the first day? You actually had a solid start to your week at Q-school.
BEATRICE WALLIN: Yeah, it's so nice for him to come down here. He's actually leaving tomorrow morning to go back to Orlando and then take a flight to Bermuda for the event next week. So it's super nice that he could come down here and support me and just like take the pressure off a little so I could think about other stuff. We've been dating for almost seven months now so it feels pretty new. I went home over the summer so we didn't see each other for like three months, but it's awesome to have him here and give me some smiles and some applause, as always, so it's special. But yeah, I'm very thankful.
Q. Do you two chat a lot about golf outside of the golf?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Just a little, not too much, because both of us are kind of like golf -- you play on the golf course and then you do other stuff outside of the golf course, which is very nice. We have a lot of fun. So not really.
Q. He's headed to his version of Q-school here in a couple of weeks. Have you given him some ribs about playing in Q-school?
BEATRICE WALLIN: No, I haven't. I feel like he's more experienced than I am. I asked him for like advice and stuff, and I just try to like support him and he supports me, so it's kind of nice that we're going through similar things.
Q. Heading into the weekend, you're put yourself in a really good position thus far. You're not playing like this is a new experience for you. What's the mindset heading into Saturday and Sunday?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Kind of just like play as these two days and just play my game and play against the course and not like everyone else because it's a lot of people and everyone is great and they come this far for a reason.
I just try to like make birdies on every hole and play my best. But yeah, it's a long week, so just have some fun, too, and enjoy it. My brother is caddying for me. He came all the way from Sweden, so just have a nice week with him.
Q. I actually think we're going to go to the beach this afternoon, just take a little swim, just like do a lot of fun things while I'm here. I've never been in Venice before.
And then just like play the game I know, kind of just try to get it going, get the flow of it and make some putts.
Q. Your fellow Seminole or former Seminole Matilda Castren made the final putt at the Solheim Cup this year. Do you follow her at all, and if so, how much does seeing her have so much success encourage you to follow the same path?
BEATRICE WALLIN: I'm actually not one of those people that watch a lot of golf on television, but I follow her on Instagram, and I see all the updates. I know Coach is talking a lot about her, and it's kind of nice to know that she went to Florida State and she's one of the best today. It just gave me some motivation, and like try to do the same steps that she has, and we'll see how it goes.
Q. What's your brother's name?
BEATRICE WALLIN: Ricard.
Q. You've had quite a career at Florida State already. Playing pretty good golf. How much does that experience from those two years help you this week?
BEATRICE WALLIN: I think it helps a lot. I'm doing my senior year right now, and just like experience chipping on this grass and playing different courses in the States, that was so new my freshman year and also my sophomore year. I didn't really know what to do and what to expect, and I feel like now I know a little more about the course and the grass and how to hit those types of shots. So that helped a lot, which I'm very thankful for.
I feel like I know more about my golf game and how to hit shots. All kinds of grass is so different; if you're here, it's Bermuda; if you're somewhere else like California, it's completely different. It's kind of nice to have that experience in the bag, just like know what to do.
