Quick Quotes
Q. Let's start with today's round. Tied for the lead as of right now with Pauline. I'm sure you guys know each other pretty well through the LET. Let's start with your day, just 5-under. I think the one hole I came out you bogeyed, but you had a pretty great day otherwise. How did it go for you?
LINN GRANT: I mean, I started off good. Made a couple birdies in the beginning. Had a nice feeling. Then made a stupid bogey on 9, kind of set me off a little bit. It's an easy par-5, so it should be a birdie hole.
But then kind of came back at the end of it, managed to make a birdie on 18 and score 4-under.
Q. I have a par on 9 for you.
LINN GRANT: That's wrong. Then I'm not in the lead. 68.
Q. Bogey on 12?
LINN GRANT: Yes, that's right.
Q. And then you had a 6 on 9?
LINN GRANT: Yeah. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, yeah.
Q. So you're at 4.
LINN GRANT: Yeah.
Q. One off the lead. Either way, how have you prepared for this week?
LINN GRANT: Well, I've been home the whole fall in Sweden and played a couple LET events, which was fun. I mainly just played a couple majors as pro events, so that was good.
I had a week in France, played an LET access event, won that, so I had kind of a good feeling walking into this week.
Just practiced, got my wedges on point and my putter is good, so I'm pretty solid. My game is solid at the moment, which is nice.
Q. What's the home club in Sweden for you?
LINN GRANT: Rya Golf Club.
Q. Can you spell that?
LINN GRANT: R-y-a. Just simple, Golf Club.
Q. You made it sound so elaborate but it was three letters.
LINN GRANT: Yeah.
Q. You had a pretty awesome amateur career from what I read up on at Arizona State.
LINN GRANT: Right.
Q. When you left did you feel like you had some expectations on your shoulders entering the pro ranks, or was it just kind of like, hey, I know what I'm capable of, let's just carry it on out here?
LINN GRANT: I would say both. I mean, I know what I'm capable of, but still, it's a new place. I've never played a Q-school before, and I've never had a membership on any Tour. I'm a newbie, and my amateur career doesn't matter anymore, you just kind of have to leave that behind you and continue on whatever I have in front of me.
But it's a little scary, yeah. I don't know anything about this. I do, I know all of them here, but kind of it's a new level, it's a new kind of environment for me.
Q. There's quite a Swedish contingent on both the Symetra Tour and the LPGA. Is there anybody that you talk to anybody regularly, a Swedish player that you connect with --
LINN GRANT: Like older girls?
Q. Yeah, somebody maybe that has mentored you or you've looked up to or maybe know friend-wise or just mentor kind of way?
LINN GRANT: I mean, I know -- I've met all of them. I've talked a lot to all of them. Linnea used to go to ASU, Anna used to go to ASU, so I see them a lot and I ask them a bunch of questions whenever I can. Linnea is just two years older than me so we're more like friends. Anna is more like an idol I would say. But yeah, I know them I'd say. It's not as if -- I never had like a hero in golf or mentor, but if there's anything I need to ask them, I will.
Q. Would you say that Anna's win earlier this year was something that kind of maybe inspired you and others at home?
LINN GRANT: Yeah, for sure. We kind of thought that -- most of the players and most of the Swedish audience kind of thought that she was kind of maybe thinking of not playing anymore or maybe not playing but --
Q. Retiring maybe?
LINN GRANT: Yeah, maybe, like the expectations were kind of -- but she had a great year, then that came, and now I feel like she's on a roll again with the Solheim Cup and everything. I think she'll hold on to it a little bit longer. I hope so at least.
Q. From your week here studying both the Panther and the Bobcat courses, what about each makes it a unique course and challenging in its own right?
LINN GRANT: I think this one is a little bit shorter, like more wedges, but still like more hazards, a little more narrow from the tees. Bobcat is a little bit wider but longer I feel like, especially the par-4s and par-3s. Even though it's wider, you still have to -- the clubs are still longer so it doesn't really make any difference. Yeah, I like them both. The greens here are a little bit more speedy, though. Tomorrow I can hit a little bit firmer, which is good.
Q. You said you've been at home in Sweden practicing and getting ready. When did you come over to the States for this?
LINN GRANT: I flew last Wednesday.
Q. So not too early.
LINN GRANT: No.
Q. Did you come right here?
LINN GRANT: Yes, and then I'm going back to Phoenix afterwards.
Q. Do you spend a lot of time out there, because I know there's a Swedish camp out there, too.
LINN GRANT: I haven't now recently because I've been home, but I still have an apartment there, and my plan is to go from there in the future, kind of have that as my base.
Q. Anything I should know about Linn Grant that I don't or anything that makes you stand out in your own unique way?
LINN GRANT: A difficult question.
Q. You don't have to brag, but something that people don't know about you that is interesting.
LINN GRANT: Oh, my gosh. The worst question.
Q. Like Katherine Smith, for instance earlier she talked about how she was a graphic design major, and she puts -- not that you have to have something --
LINN GRANT: No, no, I see. Gosh, it's so hard. No.
Q. Favorite golf memory?
LINN GRANT: No. I'm so bad with this.
Q. How many wins did you have at Arizona State that you can remember?
LINN GRANT: Four, I think. I had four in a row. Five.
Q. Between two seasons?
LINN GRANT: Five wins but four in a row. Yeah, no, I'm not that fun.
Q. You're humble?
LINN GRANT: I'm private.
Q. Humble and private, that's good.
