Q. Just the thought process and decision and how you told Charlie he's getting the start tonight?
BRIAN SNITKER: We talked to Charlie yesterday. And he's great with it. I wanted to make sure he was great with it physically. He went out, threw the ball around yesterday, felt good. So I said, go for it.
Q. Is his temperament perfect for a closeout situation, his experience?
BRIAN SNITKER: Yeah, I haven't seen a temperament yet. He's the same guy all the time. And I think he's good.
Q. Do you approach it as a regular start for Charlie, or do you look at it maybe a little earlier, see how he's doing after the third, fourth?
BRIAN SNITKER: Probably keep up with him the entire time, every time he comes in, see where he's at, pretty much. I told him, there's no expectations here, just get this thing started and get it off the ground, see where it takes us.
Q. When you look at what Smoltz and Glavine or going back to even Spahn, do we make too much of short rest now?
BRIAN SNITKER: Yeah, because it used to be a norm. This wasn't short rest, it was the norm, back until we made it not pretty much.
Back in Johnny Sain's day, when he was a pitching coach he was all for guys getting two days and then pitching.
It's a mindset. The guy has to be willing to do it, want to do it. And it's a different -- we're not going to do it during the year. Probably we're going to go the other way and give an extra day every chance we get.
But it's a different time. And there's no big expectation for Charlie. I say just get it off the ground, see where we go.
Q. Did Charlie dial back anything in the past few days in terms of sides?
BRIAN SNITKER: He limited all that just with this in mind. He knew this was a possibility. And so he just played some catch. I don't think he threw a side. Which they don't need to do that right now.
Q. What gives you the confidence you'll get maybe not 100 percent, 110 percent but the best version of Charlie at short rest? What gives you confidence he can pitch well today?
BRIAN SNITKER: I have every confidence just because of his experience, being through all this. I don't think he's going to expend a lot of energy worrying about it or anything when he goes out. I've got every confidence in the world that he'll be fine doing that.
Q. When you woke up this morning, what made you lean towards Joc?
BRIAN SNITKER: I did last night after the game. It's just almost like it's too real now to not get him in there, really. What he's doing.
And, so, I was on the fence yesterday, actually, as I woke up and tossed and turned and everything, which I'm glad I didn't, really. I don't know, maybe. So I just thought now it's time. And I'm going to get him in there, get him four at-bats.
Q. (Indiscernible) today as far as how you want to approach him in this situation, I asked you this yesterday, but just to attack, continue?
BRIAN SNITKER: Our guys say -- I don't know, they all have their approach, I think. We're an aggressive team. It's well documented. You can watch us play. So, I think he'll be fine. I don't know how long he's going to go either.
Q. You wake up today and look at probables. You guys didn't have one, Dodgers and Brewers, is that part of the new postseason-type baseball and is it good?
BRIAN SNITKER: Yes, it just seems to be. We went through it last year. I remember waiting on a starter in the NLCS at one point in Dallas when we were sitting there. Didn't know until 10:30, 11:00 in the morning one of the games. It's just probably kind of the new normal now.
