NL DIVISION SERIES: BREWERS VS BRAVES

October 9, 2021

Christian Yelich

Brandon Woodruff

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

American Family Field

Milwaukee Brewers

Postgame 2 Press Conference

Braves - 3, Brewers - 0

Q. Brandon, how do you think you pitched tonight? Looked like a couple of their big hits came from change-ups that were down?

BRANDON WOODRUFF: I thought it went well. Runs matter in the postseason. You can't always be perfect. Basically two pulled change-ups. Albies did a good job. It was well below the zone, and he was able to get a barrel on it.

And the one to Riley kind of just stayed middlish and that's kind of what he hits really well. And it was not executed. So you tip your hat to them. They put up some good at-bats.

It's tough, man. You don't want to give up runs because you know how hard they are to score.

Q. Christian, what is -- Fried has been pitching well really for a couple of months, what is it about him that makes him so successful?

CHRISTIAN YELICH: He made some pitches when he had to. He did a good job throwing everything for a strike and kind of keeping us off balance. We didn't really have much going on there for the first few innings. Got some traffic towards the end and just couldn't get a big hit when we needed one.

Q. Christian, when a starting pitcher is pitching like that and you get some cracks at the bullpen, that's when you have your chance. You guys actually had quite a few at-bats in those last few innings for a tying run.

CHRISTIAN YELICH: Yeah, gave ourselves a chance. And that's what you want in those situations when you're chasing a few runs, just give yourself a chance to tie it with one swing of the bat. And it didn't really work out for us tonight. But it happens. We kept after it, kept putting the pressure on them and they did a good job making pitches when they had to.

Q. It seemed like on every team there's always one pitcher who just gets the bad luck with run support. And it's been Woody this year. With how well he's pitched how frustrating is that as a group you haven't put many big numbers up for him?

CHRISTIAN YELICH: I don't really know how to explain it. It's just one of those baseball things.

Q. Woody, if you look back at your last month, how do you think you're just throwing the ball in general. I know you want to start again. How do you feel like just your pitching?

BRANDON WOODRUFF: I would say obviously the last month or so hasn't been up to my standards, the way I want to. But that's part of a long season. You're going to have some ups and downs, and that comes with it.

After having 10 days off and being able to get through six on a relatively low pitch count, that's a good sign. So I felt good.

We'll head to Atlanta and hopefully put it on them and finish it out and get ready for the next inning.

Q. With the series tied now, what's your approach moving forward now that the series shifts to Atlanta?

CHRISTIAN YELICH: Win two more games. We knew it was going to be a tough series. You don't go into these assuming there's going to be a sweep. You think there's going to be back and forths. And expecting a great atmosphere. They're a tough team. We have to play well to try to come out on top.
