Quick Quotes
Q. 5-under par, how pleased with your day's work?
SHANE LOWRY: Very happy. I birdied the last two there and sitting here today it feels like a really nice day. It's tough, so windy out there. You're going to make mistakes, I limited them today and I made five birdies and an eagle today it. Was a nice day. I really enjoyed it with Callum yesterday and Gerry and KP. First time I played with him and enjoyed it and one of those days, it was nice out there.
Q. You're renowned for your skills in these conditions. What's the biggest key to scoring well when it's blowing like this?
SHANE LOWRY: I don't want to give too much away, but I don't really know. You know, I just know -- I think I'm just naturally quite good as seeing a shot, seeing a 150 6-iron and seeing what I can and can't do, even on the last hole I probably could have hit the green with a 3-wood but I knew the right thing was to knock a 3-iron up close. I just know where I'm at out there. It feels comfortable to me and it is difficult when you're out there and I have had bad days when I'm playing in the wind but when I get in the wind, I generally feel comfortable out there. It was the same today.
Q. Despite winning The Open Championship, you've been saying The Ryder Cup was the highlight of your golfing life. Explain particularly why.
SHANE LOWRY: I think you form relationships and bonds with people that you never really thought you would, and it's just something that, you know, I'm very fortunate to do what I do for a living. Obviously I play golf around the world and I make quite a good living from it and I've obviously been lucky to win The Open Championship in Ireland, which is something that I couldn't have even dream of growing up.
I think the atmosphere in the team room, the team aspect, I just loved every single second of the week. It's a much more enjoyable week of golf than playing a major championship. Emotions are running high on a week like last week. I can't really explain it; it was the most incredible week of my life and we got hammered. It's mad if you think about it.
It's just something that I've seen the lads say all along, Poults and Sergio and everybody saying that making The Ryder Cup, how much it means, and now I actually see what it does really mean and I hope to be there in Rome.
