Friday Afternoon Fourballs
JOHN DEVER: Long day, got the halve-point needed. Thoughts of your match?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: It was an amazing match. At one point we had the upper hand and I had a couple of good chances to put us further ahead at the start of the back nine, but I mean, Viktor played great. I was really happy with how I played, the way those guys hit the ball, the way we all hit the ball really down the stretch.
Once you turn into the wind on those last few holes, it was a really cool match to be a part of. Of course you always want to get the most out of it you can. We would have loved a win. I had such a beautiful time with Viktor out on the golf course and it was just a really good match.
JOHN DEVER: What was it like riding sidecar with Tommy?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: It was special being on the team with him, and we had great chemistry all day. Obviously riding the big high early in the round and we had a few bad holes early on the back nine, but we really just trusted each other.
When I was in trouble, Tommy made a couple clutch par saves, and when he was in trouble, I was able to step up. We really meshed up well today, and it was awesome being paired up with him.
Q. Was there ever any thought on 18, Tommy, you putting out before Viktor took his?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: No, I don't think we thought of that. Viktor's wasn't really a putt that he could massively run at it, and I think at that stage of the game, I didn't feel like rushing anything. It wasn't that easy of a putt. I'm really, really proud of the actual putt I hit from six feet to hole it.
We really didn't think of that, and I think we did that really good all day, really. If there was a time that one of us wanted the other one to hit a putt, we would do it, but very rarely would that happen. We just wanted to stay -- play how we normally play. You get to the last hole in such a big match in a Ryder Cup, it's like start messing around, probably wouldn't have been right.
I think we did a good job of keeping our rhythm and doing what we always do, and just let Viktor Hovland go play golf, and you'll be all right most of the time.
Q. How do you feel about a halve at the end of the day?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: It was a really, really good match. Like me and Viktor both said walking down the last, whatever the result was going to happen, we've given it everything. I had such an amazing day with this guy, and it was like a pleasure to be involved in that match really. And yeah, a win would have been nice, but we did great. It was just a pleasure to be in that match.
Q. Your first experience in Ryder Cup today. How would you describe it?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: It's unreal. I would have liked to maybe put some more points on the board, but I mean, I don't think it's possible to have a more fun time, and with Tommy today, we were just a great team today. You know, we could have gotten the win out, but hopefully we have a chance to set the record straight tomorrow.
