Friday Afternoon Fourballs

JOHN DEVER: We are back here at the 43rd Ryder Cup.

Q. First of all, what was it like to sink that putt on 18?

TYRRELL HATTON: A very special moment. Obviously standing over that, I know it's a massive putt and it's going to help the team, and I was just -- I didn't hole any putts today. I just had to trust that one, and hit it left lip and made sure I hit a good putt.

Thankfully I managed to do that. It went in and just an amazing feeling. Obviously you could see the emotion there at the end. It was huge for the team, and hopefully that turns the momentum our way now.

Q. It was some match. How much did it test the nerves and the emotion today?

JON RAHM: Yeah, it was a back-and-forth match, and quite an unusual one, when you have Bryson do things like what he did on 5, you know you're going to have a couple holes where a halve is going to be a very good score just because of the tee shots he can hit.

And yeah, things didn't look great on 16 for a while. Me being able to make the good putt kept us going, and man, he hit an amazing shot on 17 that probably deserved more, and a good putt.

I'm glad he was able to play 18 the way he did. That is a world-class hole, to hit that driver and the 5-iron and the putt to follow it up. Glad we could get that halve. Almost feels like a win and now hoping we end strong as a team.

Q. We've been talking with Jon this week about grit, about fire and I think the combination of you two is quite strong, so what do you feel playing with him today?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, obviously tough shoes to fill after this morning when he went out with Sergio. But I knew about the partnership earlier this week, and obviously it was one that I was really excited for. Jon is No. 1 in the world for a reason. He's a fantastic player, and I just had to hopefully be there to try and back him up when I can.

It's a partnership that I was obviously very pleased about. We get on well and I think we enjoyed it out there.

Q. How do you feel?

JON RAHM: A little tired. It was a good match. They played good golf. It was a good battle. The wind picked up and things got complicated at the end. To birdie two of the last three and with a really good chance at 17 because that iron Tyrrell hit was unbelievable, one of the best-struck irons I've ever seen in my life.

It feels good to get the halve-point. Things like that can turn the tide, and hopefully Tommy and Viktor can get it done and it's a whole different dynamic.

Q. What are the things you are saying to yourselves when you see the scoreboard?

TYRRELL HATTON: You're never out of the fight. That was obviously huge for the team there at the end. And like Jon said, hopefully that can kind of turn the momentum our way and Tommy and Viktor can have a good last couple of holes and win a point, and hopefully we go into tomorrow with momentum on our side. It's obviously a good feeling to roll that one in on the last.
