Quick Quotes
Q. Low round of the week, 64. Assess today's round and the week as a whole?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It was a weird first two rounds. Actually Callaway sent three drivers, I was doing driver testing Saturday morning on the range and threw a driver in the bag I had probably five to ten hits with. With all that said, I'd say the driver was much better on Saturday and Sunday and it put me in better spots. And overall, just happy. Birdieing the last four holes is always a good thing.
Q. A waiting game until the captain's picks are announced. What do you feel like you would bring to the team?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Points. We need points to win Cups, and I think I can win some points. I won three at the Presidents Cup. I lost two, which is a bummer. But I'm really happy that I was able to play in The Presidents Cup. I know The Ryder Cup, with us losing so much there's extra pressure there. I'm happy I've been in that team format prior and hopefully I can take that team experience moving forward.
Q. You've played a lot with Patrick over the years. Does he have a good sense of humor, funny, those things that we always ask?
A. He's dry, he's linear, he's to the point. He'll give it to you straight if you ask him. He is funny. He's become one of my closer friends out here and someone I play frequently with. I think that nickname, Patty Ice, is a really good one.
Q. Do you call him that?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: No, he's just PC. PC or Patrick to me. He didn't do anything different. He's been the same guy the whole time. He just happened to go six holes deep in a playoff doing stuff that he normally does against me on a Tuesday.
I was not surprised whatsoever watching him do all that and seeing him do what he's doing now.
Q. Give me a funny. I'd love to know what a funny is, like a joke.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Our jokes typically seem to be more inappropriate than not for television, so there's no jokes to be told here.
Q. Your partnership, friendship in the Presidents Cup, why did it work so well?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: We are different. I'm definitely more -- he makes fun of me for having what he would say, like almost a fake-positive attitude. I joke a lot about it. He's very to the point. We started off playing a lot of practice rounds and I knew his team well before knowing Patrick well. We had competitive nine-hole matches on Tuesdays, and it helped us prepare for tournaments and it became a frequent thing. And playing together at the Presidents Cup solidified our relationship, so it's worked out well.
Q. Did you talk with Stricker?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: No, I just asked what wedge he was using. I was worried about my own problems this week. He came by and gave me a fist bump and told me not to worry too much. I'm not going to be as confident as the other boys in their interviews about being on the team, but I feel good.
Q. Do you feel more drained this season?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's more ice baths, more recovery. I was mentally in the worst place I was last week, probably the most angry and frustrated I've been in a really long time and I think a lot of it I could attribute to playing overseas a bunch.
And so unfortunately I went to the Olympics and grabbed a Gold Medal. If I finished in 40th I would have been really upset and probably not been able to play well today or this week. It was important to do well and get the job done and it made it easier for me to maintain a better attitude moving forward.
